Gossip In Grover’s Corners
.... eh? This town’s gettin’ bigger
every year [Howie] (Wilder, 828).” It is best for the community to know
what is going on so they can help out each other if needed. Gossip builds
strong communities and allows them to function and prosper.
Another positive effect of gossip is that it will force people to
do good things for the community. If they don’t then rumors will start and
you will get a bad name. This is good because you want everyone to be
equaly involved in trying to improve your community. It is just like any
team sport. If everyone doesn’t do their best and help each other out then
the team will suffer as a whole. G .....

Hamlet: Appearance Versus Reality
.... sounds sincere but in
reality it is rehearsed, hollow and without feeling. Polonius gives his
advice only to appear to be the loving caring father. The reality is he
only speaks to appear sincere as a politician, to look good rather then
actually be good:
"And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell; my blessing season this in thee!"
(Act 1, Scene 3 lines 77 - 81)
Polonius gives his son Laertes his blessing to go away, he sends a spy to
follow him and keep an eye on him. This shows his .....

Julius Caesar: The Corruption Of Power
.... Cimber begs him to reverse his brother’s
banishment. Caesar selfishly replied that this request “might fire the
blood of ordinary men…know, Caesar doth not wrong…”. He refers to himself
in the third person, and considered his status to be next to the gods. He
believed he was never wrong and his judgment was always correct.
Antony loved Caesar dearly. When Caesar was assassinated, Antony’s
ruthless side showed. He was now thirsty for revenge and played with the
mob’s emotions in order to get what he wanted; he did not care who he was
hurting. He reveals his plan to create civil strife throughout Italy and
will blame it .....

The Use Of “Foil” Characters In Shakespeare’s Hamlet
.... upon the character of Hamlet. For example although we do not see
Fortinbras’s initial reaction to his fathers death, we know that from the
outset of the play he has already set out to avenge his fathers death.
“...Now, sir, young Fortinbras,
Hath in the skirts of Norway, here and there,
Shark’d up a list of lawless resolutes,”
This quote tells us that in this short period of time Fortinbras has formed
an army of outlaws to launch an attack on Denmark “…to recover of us, by
strong of hand……those foresaid lands so by his father lost”. In this same
period of time, despite his suspicions, Hamlet has achieved nothing .....

Death Of A Salesman: Willy
.... The problem with Willy is that he never grows up and deals with
his obstacles. Willy is also a very stubborn man. He is like a little
child that wants to do something their way even though they know that
another option would be the wiser choice. Charley practically sets a
potential job into Willy's lap and he refuses it. Willy just was fired and
needed a job. He refuses one. Willy is too stubborn to let go of his old
job and take a new one. He still believes that he is at the top of his
profession. When Willy does not get his way he acts just as a child would.
He has tantrums such as when he basically challenged .....

Cole's View From Mount Holyoke, Massachusetts And Whitman's Leaves Of Grass: Ways The Artist Portrays Themselves To The Viewer
.... with Cole are his tools.
Cole’s tool be distinctly placed plays a very important role in one’s
understanding of why Cole presents himself in his work. T. Cole can also be
seen on his portfolio. Cole is seen in this painting as an artist. He makes
it a point to distinguish himself from the rest of his surroundings. Just
as Cole separates himself, he also geometrically breaks up the land. The
settled land is presented in perfect geometric shapes. Cole seems to like
to use definition in this painting. Deep brush strokes are used to convey
the effect of rain in the West (or the darker portion of the painting)where
a storm is evident. .....

“A Doll’s House”: The Theme Of Individual Vs. Society
.... society expects of him. Torvald runs
his household with an iron fist. He is this way most likely because he is
afraid of what might happen if he did not do what the world expected him to
do. He wants society to see him as a respectable man with a great position.
Torvald in fact fires Krogstad because of this: “he thinks that entitles
him to take a familiar air around me. . . .I tell you, it’s been
excruciating for me”(993). Torvald sees his worst nightmare come true when
he finds out that his wife has borrowed money from Krogstad. Instead of
thinking of how much his wife must of loved him to do something like that,
Torvald c .....

Movie Review: Introducing Dorothy Dandridge
.... they are
and the people who made it possible. The struggles that Dorthy had to g
through such as the scene where they drained the pool since she touched it
amazed me. I couldn’t imagine having to perform under conditions that I
couldn’t use the facilities around me in the hotel I was staying. The
embarrassment that went along with the pool being drained must have been
enormous. Yet, through her anger she kept her head high and still performed.
This film made it possible in world where I found out in our first
assignment to find information on early black artist is almost impossible
to introduce and educate about one the most ama .....

Death Of A Salesman: Willy's Life
.... he is in the present, it’s just in the past
his sons are successful in school. The Qualities Willy tries to instill in
his kids are to be well liked, and have a strong mind for business. In the
past he was a great dad, but that’s because his sons were turning out OK by
his standards. A person’s character should be judged when times are hard
and not when times are good. Willy Loman is a judgmental fraud just as Biff
his son has seen him for a long time.
Willy’s sons Biff and Happy are men of good character. Biff is
living his life the best way he knows. He is not a rich man by all means,
but has the happiness of not living day by .....

The Crucible
.... accusations have resulted in the
deaths of twenty people. But later on in the story the truth comes back to
haunt them because they are the ones who end up being accused for
witchcraft. I mentioned in line 23 of my poem, sooner or later the truth
will come out and you have to be ready to confront it. She tried to cover
it but the lies continued to pile up until she could no longer cover them
and she was caught in her own lie.
In Act II John Proctor tries to make Mary Warren go to court to
declare that Abigail is a liar, but she warns him that Abigail will accuse
him . Through out this story Abigail had lied and ma .....

Shakespeare In Love: A Great Movie
.... by men. This illustrated the lack of
belief that a woman could put on an act as well as a man. However, in
this movie, the part of Juliet winds up being acted out by a woman much to
the surprise of the audience. In response to this the people are appalled
and feel that she should be punished for taking on the role that only a “
man” should do. The queen’s reaction is one of empathy in the fact that
in her role as ruler this is exactly what she, herself, does. The film
doesn’t end on a happily ever after note, as one would expect. Viola ends
up marrying not the man she loves, but the man she is expected to marry. .....
