Affirmative Action: Opportunities Of Character, Not Color
.... is the best solution to past discrimination and color-
blindness, and that without affirmative action the gaps between our races
will never close.
Although these arguments may have positive aspects such as creating
a multicultural campus, affirmative action's many faults cause more
problems than are solved. The leading problem with these ideas on
affirmative action in colleges is that it has completely failed to
accomplish one of its main goals: reduce the color-consciousness of
university students and ease racial tension. On the contrary, it has done
exactly the opposite because affirmative action "poses a conflic .....

The Red Scare
.... the
United States. With the USSR and the USA emerging from the second World War
as major world powers, neither wished to give up their newly acquired land.
Both countries following imperialist ideas attempted to spread their
government across the world. America, insecure about its power to uphold a
democratic government in foreign nations feared a communist invasion from
their Cold War foe, Russia. A hysteria swept across the United States as
American paranoia of a loss of personal rights increased. President Harry
Truman's thoughts summed up the nation's feelings toward communists with,
"The Reds, phonies and parlor pinks seem .....

Should Canada Be Allowed To Continue With Genetic Engineering Without Federal Guidelines?
.... Doctor Tom Bowen of the Calgary children's hospital to remove
blood from the child 4 hours. after birth, the blood was then promptly
flown to Los Angeles California where the blood testing was done and a new
gene introduced into the specimen blood. From there the blood was flown
back to Calgary and then reintroduced into the child's blood stream. Today
child leads the life of an average 6 month old.
Dr. Bowen states "We have the potential to do alot of harm, and an
incredible amount of good. Let's harness the good, keep some control to it,
and get our heads out of the sand."
Developments have come a long way since gen .....

The Use Of The Second Amendment In The Home
.... the use of a Militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing
army, the bane of liberty" (The Commission of the Bicentennial of the
United States Constitution, 26). On December 15, 1791, Virginia ratified
the Bill of Rights, making it, with the second amendment, part of the
constitution (The Commission for the Bicentennial of the United States
Constitution, 5).
The Constitution does not guarantee gun ownership for just any
reason. The second amendment makes it clear that only a well regulated
Militia needs arms. "As recently as 1980 the Supreme Court noted that 'The
second amendment guarantees no right to keep and .....

United We Stand For The Red, White, And Blue
.... people who do nothing but complain about how this country is run.
Instead of complaining, they should do something about it. If they feel a
certain way about a certain issue, they could bring it to the attention of
the government. That is yet another good quality of our government, if
someone does not like it, the Constitution may be amended.
This country was set up more than 200 years ago to allow people the
right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The founding fathers
of the United States had the best intentions for the best country that
there has ever been and maybe will ever be. Everyone should be proud .....

James Madison's Opinion Why A Republic Is Better Than A Democracy
.... of
representatives are all controlled by ONE faction...you still have the same
problem that a Democracy would have, only on a smaller scale. (Southern
States in 1860..etc.)
In 1787 however, the American Colonies did not communicate with one
another. Mass. and New York were like two different countries. So from
Madison's perspective, a faction in New York would be limited from
expanding in Mass. by the republican form of government. Today, factions
know no boundaries...obviously.
Well anyway, I think me explanation is longer than #10.
Keypoints:
The more factions/parties in government..the better. A r .....

Apartheid In South Africa
.... citizens to vote for a new government and a new system came took place
only in 1994, after decades of racial injustice.
That first free, all-race election chose a black man, Nelson Manila,
elected President of South Africa... after he spent 26 years in jail, for
opposing the 'apartheid' of the former white supremacist government.
South Africa's reform came very slowly and painfully, after many years of
widespread injustice, racial discrimination, bloodshed, and violence
against its non-white citizens.
Non-violent resistance, combined with organized underground sabotage and
terrorism by the African National Congress in 1961. ANC .....

Roe V. Wade
.... Bork) He continues to say " It is unlikely that it ever will,
because the right to abort, whatever one thinks of it, is not found in the
Constitution ". (Pg, 103, Bork)
Dworkin, distinguished author of the book titled Life's Dominion,
feels differently than the critics described above. He deems that the
court does in fact have the right to interpret the Constitution. Dworkin
agrees with Justice Blackmun's opinion in this great philosophical issue.
Blackmun feels that " a pregnant woman has a specific constitutional right
to privacy in matters of procreation, and that this general right includes
a right to an aborti .....

The Jury System
.... in Law & the Modern Mind, 1930. " A lot of verdicts are
irresponsible juries' products of caprice and prejudice, for example, the
defendant is a rich corporation, the plaintiff is a poor boy and the
counsel is an eloquent speaker. Such facts often decide who wins or loses."
He characterizes that juries have tendency to like weak people and hate
strong people. Jury system seems to have many problems. A sophisticated and
rich person, a person of position and a busy businessman do not want to
become a juror, because juries are bound for all trial period and therefore
person who can afford time for trial can become a juror, such as a

American Values Of The Freedom Of Speech And The Press
.... WE WANT AN EDUCATION THAT WILL TEACH US
THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW, SO WE CAN BETTER
SERVE THE PEOPLE!!!!” (Zerman, p.3).
He had challenged the school and the courts by what he said. He won his
court case and showed people that the freedom of speech and the press is a
privilege and a tool to value.
The freedom of speech and the press should at least have some
limitations. That's what a poll taken in the 80's said. “...a majority
believed that the public's right to know is subordinate to an individual's
right to privacy, that the harm certain information, were it be aired,
would inflict on the su .....

Affirmative Action Is Wrong
.... of the policy is much like continued use of a strong
medication. When a patient is suffering from a terrible disease, as was
the United States suffering from discrimination, strong medication is
sometimes needed to cure the problem. But once the disease is taken care
of, further use of the medication does not help the patient, but actually
weakens them.
Supporters of Affirmative Action feel that the problem is not taken
care of. They feel that prejudice and discrimination is not eradicated and
therefore continued use of Affirmative Action is required. They are only
half correct. Though it is significantly less than w .....
