Auschwitz

When they first arrived at Auschwitz, the victims were checked in and given an I.D. number. The I.D. number was then tattooed onto their body, usually the arm. Over 404,000 I.D. numbers were given out all together. 237,426 went to male prisoners, 133,496 went to female prisoners.

A Trip To Colorado
.... I looked up and saw a Stonehenge like structure built from the trunks of thousand-year-old pines. Hanging from the center of the structure was a weathered sign that looked like it hadn’t been attended to in years. The tattering of faded red letters told of a life of solidarity, just watching day after day go by and welcoming the occasional visitor. When we passed under it, I read the sign, “711 Ranch.” It rolled off the tongue with nothing but ease, and, at least in my ears, sounded more glorious than a Beethoven Symphony.

Alcatraz Island (The Prison)

Geology Of The Deschutes Basin
.... ago. This is when the new Cascades were created. The new Cascades caused there to be a great difference in the climate on the West Side and the East Side of the mountain range.
Our field trip started by driving through the city of Bend and its geology. In Bend there are two Buttes. There is Pilot Butte, which is the oldest, and there is Awbrey Butte. Pilot Butte is a composite cone with no crater. This Butte is surrounded by older lava from the Newberry crater area. Both Pilot and Awbrey Butte are Kipukas because they are both islands surrounded by older rock. Our next stop was in Dry Canyon, where we observed a few fault .....
