Description Dominance Of Greco-Roman Culture
.... are strong, and that if we fail to
attack them it is because we are afraid.
The Athenian people were not directly threatened by the Melians and therefore had no practical reason to attack them. Their primary motivation was, obviously, to assert their dominance, their excellence, upon the Melian people. In his "Funeral Oration", Pericles declares the excellence of the Athenian people, "Taking everything together then, I declare that our city is an education to Greece, and I declare that in my opinion each single one of our citizens, in all the manifold aspects of life, is able to show himself the rightful lord and owner of his .....

The Boxer Rebellion
.... China. So I will look at the impact of outside influence on China and how China reacted to the pressure. Finally, I will look at the impact of the Boxer Uprising.
China’s first major change in policy with regard to the west was set with the Portuguese. The Portuguese first attempted to trade with China, there was an awful precedent that the rest of the West would follow. The Portuguese used force to get what they wanted with regard to trade, port access, and settlement. The Portuguese were considered like bandits, but the Chinese allowed for them to trade and eventually settle. The Chinese viewed themselves as superior and these .....

Neoclassical Period
.... of ideas that were a reaction against the proceeding "Age of Reason". As Shelley stated, that the literature of the age “has arisen as it were from a new birth”. They concentrated on innovation rather than traditionalism in their material, forms and style of literature, and introduced symbolism. Wordsworth was one of the key poets in that age; his poetry was about his own feelings, spontaneous and genuine rather than a mirror of men in action, therefor concentrating on inner self and life but not society. In order to achieve that you have to be in solitude. They believed in the power of imagination vs. cold reasoning. They felt t .....

The Conflict In Kosovo
.... NATO didn't expect any dead bodies but it was possible that one of the bombs fell short. NATO's overnight raids hit targets throughout Yugoslavia, including bridges, airfields, petroleum installations, police headquarters and air defense installations. They don't want to leave anything out. Search and Destroy. How much will it all cost ? Me and many others are concerned about this question.Nobody seems to know exactly how much the U.S. share of NATO's operation will be, but it's certain to be high. The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a nonpartisan think tank, released a report today estimating that the campaign .....

The French Revolution
.... groups such as the Jacobins toward the constitutional monarchy. These groups were interested in forming a republic, allowing for more radical reformation at the hands of the people. The Jocobins themselves soon became divided, however, between the Girondists, who wanted a representative and more conservative republic, and the Mountain, who wanted a more direct repuplican government and who worked with the sans-culottes to achieve their goals. The sans- culottes were influential because they were comprised of the masses and wanted immediate economic reform. In the Terror they served as an important catalyst in speeding and influen .....

Philippine Annexation
.... hand Mason felt that these people were just like anyone else, and that they should be able to live the way they have always lived. Mason also felt that it was unfair to govern the people of the Philippines given that they lived ten thousand miles away. He felt that how could a senator set laws to people that he really did not know anything about. He also felt how can you govern them when in reality you don’t “speak their language, read their newspaper, know how their schools are run, or know their religion.” Mason argued that by giving independence to the people of the Philippines meant that they would have the right to govern th .....

The Treaty Of Versailles And The League Of Nations
.... played an important role in drafting the treaty. I feel that he did a good job in seeing that the treaty was carried out and that everyone that agreed to it followed it. The treaty was also good because it helped to end World War I. I think if they did not have the treaty then Germany would have done more damage and countries that did not even cause the damage would have been paying for it and many more lives could have been lost.
The League of Nations was also good because it helped out the nations that were in trouble and all the allied powers would help each other. President Wilson did a good job of planning everyt .....

.... sought after prize. The elixir, or stone, was believed to have the power to transform ordinary metal into precious gold. Alchemists also believed that inorganic things were alive. These inorganic things possessed both spirit and matter values. Because of these beliefs alchemy became known as something strange, something like occult since. They referred alchemy to this because it dealt with properties of matter that could not be inferred by senses from humans. Alchemy became very interesting and popular due to the medieval interest in magic and the unknown. Practical chemistry was shunned upon by the general population until .....

Nigeria And Ogoni's Campaign
.... the greatest production outside of the USA. Therefore, both Shell and the Nigerian government have an interest in maintaining the status quo and continuing with business as usual.
Since the beginning of Shell's operations in the Niger Delta, the company has wreaked havoc on the neighboring communities and their environment. Many of its operations and materials are outdated, in poor conditions and would be illegal in other parts of the world. The largest problems in Ogoni stem from demonstrations met with force, gas flaring, pipelines, oil spills, lack of community assistance and lack of compensation for land.

The Socratic Logos
.... he cannot list all the aspects that are a part of virtue. Also, in the Meno Socrates attempts to define shape as that which "Always follows color."(Meno, 75c) Intuitively this account of shape does not sound right, and it is shown to be false when the definition of logos is applied to it. Because a gas or liquid can have color, but not shape, this characterization of shape is incorrect. Socrates then defines shape as "That which limits a solid."(Meno, 76a) This concise explanation of shape is incorrect because two-dimensional drawings are not solids, but do have shape.
The incorrect examples of logos given in the two pre .....

.... and insufficient military craft. Britain however, began to conjure theoretical plans to return to the main land. Then on December 11, 1941 Hitler declared war against the United States. This caused military officials to begin planning their own timetable. The two then sternly pressed for an early invasion. Initially, wishful thinking set an attack in 1943. George Marshall, chief of staff for President Roosevelt, appointed Dwight D. Eisenhower to scheme an operational that would result in an allied victory.
This led to Operation “Sledgehammer and Operation “Roundup.” Operation “Sledgehammer” was set for 1942 and would o .....
