Stereotyping In Movies
.... been stereotyped. The movie The Siege has brought up much controversy in the United States on whether or not it poorly stereotypes Muslims. The filmmakers believe that the movie was intended to inform the public of stereotyping, not to worsen anti-Arab sentiment. Many people, especially Muslims, believe that The Siege poorly stereotypes Arabs. The Muslim population especially believes that this stereotype will lead to anti-Arab sentiment.
In a Washington Post editorial Jack Shaheen says, “In the movie Arabs blow up the city’s FBI building, murdering scores of government agents; they blast theatergoers, and detonate a bomb i .....

Types Of Friends
.... would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something aggravating, such as tapping the fingers an a table or chewing gum loudly. This is why I call them "pest friends."
The second category of friends I call "social partners." This is because they are closer than acquaintances, but no where near as close as a true friend. Social partners are usually acquaintances who evolve into "guest friends" through increased extracurricular activities. You know their name, a little of what they like or dislike, a little of their family history, and usually have several things in common. As the saying goes, "Birds of a f .....

Underage Drinking: A Problem For Society
.... influence, stress, and even factors such as media influence contribute to underage drinking. “Researchers have found that peer influence, a more subtle form of peer pressure, can be a powerful predictor of alcohol use among teens.” (Mitchell, 27) Americans have a burning desire to be accepted and liked by their peers. Everyone wants to feel a sense of belonging. Many adolescents feel that they need to drink alcohol to gain this acceptance by the others around them. Stress is also another reason why teens may feel apt to drink alcohol. Stress causes teenagers to look for a quick escape from the problems which they face in .....

Why Kids Join Neo-Nazi Gangs

For contact sport, they would attack leftists Jewish memorials or the foreigners, depending on personal taste. the leader of the group has prowled police and journalists with unique insights into Germany's ultra night. His comrades are one of the decade's most chilling manifestation of European tribalism, a growing nation that blood and ethnicity can serue as a heaven against economic and political uncertainty.
They committed 14,768 assaults between 1991 and 1993 and killed at least 15 .....

What If The World Had Only Two Faces?
.... world would be their spouses’ face. That can have a negative impact on people and it may cause them to become furious and possibly violent.
Seeing the same individual over and over again would probably cause the mind to become bored. That would be plain and simply tedious. Not only would each person be “bored,” but so would the television world. What would it be like to watch a movie with each character possessing an identical face? It brings excitement to life to compare faces but in this world of two faces, it wouldn’t exist. There wouldn’t be different people or races. Some historical wars may have been eliminated; th .....

Teens And The Price They Pay To Look Good
.... to serious cases of malignant melanoma, and even to the weakening of the immune system.
I understand that people like to look nice and want to improve their looks, but there are safer ways than these tanning machines. The average 15-30 minutes spent in a tanning bed equates to an entire day spent at the beach. "If the tan color is that important to a person," Dr. Siegle suggests the "tan-in-a-bottle products it stains the skin without damaging it".
The question I ask is; why do today's teens worry so much about their appearance that they will spend hundreds of dollars a year torturing their bodies? Is it because they ha .....

Cross-Cultural Child Rearing
.... Women in the United States are amongst the few that even put their children on bottle formula. “In the West today, solid foods such as rice cereal is introduced during the first four to eight months of age: and from there, a steady progression of mashed and then chunky but soft foods are usually introduced, until eventually the child is ingesting more solid food than milk” (Small p.184). Some women in the Himalayas still breast feed their children after they have learned to walk. Javanese women hardly ever wean their children before they can walk. “ The time of weaning is extremely variable, but few babies are weaned befor .....

Natural Hierarchies In Society
.... 557).
The soul was naturally higher than the body as it naturally governed the actions of the body. People whose bodies were in control could be hurtful.
"… Although in bad or corrupted natures the body will often appear to rule over the soul, because they are in an evil and unnatural condition." (Aristotle, 560).
Aristotle wanted to show that when the soul was not in control, the person would be in an unnatural state.
Men should control woman according to Aristotle, as it was natural for them to be in control. "The male is fitter by nature for command than the female…" (Aristotle, 574). It was also thought to be .....

The Homeless Population
.... the past 15-20 years.
These two trends include the growing shortage of affordable rental housing and a simultaneous increase in poverty. How many people are homeless throughout the world? The number of homeless is made up of 58% African American, 29% Caucasian, 10% Hispanic, 2% Native American, 1% Asian. Who is to blame for homelessness? As much as I would like to blame someone else other than the homeless people, they have a lot to do with it. Most of the homeless are out on the streets due to the loss of jobs and unfinished schooling. Without a good education these people can't succeed in life. There are also many vete .....

The "Invisible" Problems Of Racism
.... and doing are racist. Until they come to grips with it there is no problem. No problem, in their minds. They say that they aren't racist, even when they don't hire the East Indian employee who was the most qualified of the candidates. Even when the basketball team that they coach is all white. And even the time when they moved from their seat at the movie theater because of the black person next to them. Well, gee, they could have been a criminal. A robber from "the hood." After all, isn't that what most of "them" are. No one deserves to be prejudged like that. The prejudice of people in the world is disgusting. The worst part of .....

Cultural Relativism
.... for that culture. Whereas if another culture finds abortion to be wrong, then it is morally right that abortion be banned, for that culture. Cultural relativism allows for diversity and differences between cultures, which in turn supports peace between cultures. Cultural relativism is a meta-ethical outlook because this theory attempts to explain the status of moral judgments. It gives guidelines as to what may be moral.
The divine command theory is also a meta-ethical approach because like cultural relativism, it also standardizes morality, defining what is moral and what is not. It claims to solve the meta-ethical questi .....

School Uniform
.... of students that had a school uniform policy. Group "B" did not. After they took the same test, group "A" got 15% higher grades than group "B". This study shows that uniforms improve grades in school.
Every time children who don't have rich parents look at the wealthy students they will dream about fancy clothes. If the schools adopt a uniform rule, children won't be teased about what they wear, because everyone will be wearing the same thing. Nobody will be jealous of anyone else's clothing. Kids who wear regular clothes, not uniforms, will always be judged by what they wear and that is not fair. Therefore, a uniform p .....
