Appearances - A Universal Concern
.... considers himself very attractive indeed.
Yet, so do the tall, smartly dressed businesspersons with their suit, tie,
and white handkerchief. Men and women of the Victorian era, when women's
ankles were not even permitted to be exposed, would surely be shocked at
the revealing outfits that have been donned by members of today's society.
In other words, one's perception of beauty is greatly influenced by the
surrounding environment and the social groups to which he belongs. Yet,
whatever one's perception of beauty, one thing is the same. This is that
all have taken great pains about their appearance.
Why are good appearances so impo .....

Argument For Keeping Repeat Offenders In Jail
.... sentence is
seven years and eleven months, but the actual average time served is two
years and eleven months. I think there are better ways to save money. For
example, we should cut back on the funding of foreign governments. We have
plenty of our own problems in the United States that we need to take care
of. We should take care of our own before we try to help others. The
money we would save would not affect us directly either. The money the
government would save would not reduce our taxes or anything like that,
they would take the money and invest it in something else important, like
maybe giving themselves a raise. Ho .....

The Battle Of The Sexes
.... then what they are.
When god created women, he gave them the ability to have children.
This advantage kind of gives women superiority over men. I'm sure if men
were able to they would have children, but they can't. Back in the
eighteen hundreds it was expected that women stay home and take care of the
children and the men would work and bring home the money to support the
family. Today there is still the man that goes out and works for a living
and the woman who stays home and watches the kids, but we are steering
toward a balance between the two. Families consist of two working parents
and children. This compromise s .....

Being Young
.... to solve this problem. They have introduced a rule
that allows pupils to go at school only if they are dressed in a specific
school-uniform. But many students don't like these uniforms. They want to
decide for themselves how to dress.
During the last years it has become more usual for parents to divorce.
Some people think that this conflict may have a positiv effect on kids,
because the children get a bigger family to hold on to. Others think the
opposite. But it is obvious that parental separation can harm or ruin many
childhoods. I don't think it is healthy for the kids if they feel dragged
between their mother and fathe .....

Bias
.... these interviews could not
be viewed as 100% accurate. One example, is a geographic bias. The people
that were interviewed were only a very small portion of the millions of
freed slaves. Counting the number of slaves interviewed from each state,
it was discovered that there were only 155 interviews from black people
living in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, and Kentucky, which is
about 6% of the total number of published interviews. Twenty-three percent
of the southern slave population lived in those states. In these
statistics, the upper-south was unrepresented.
Another example would be the ages of the ex-slaves

Blacks: A Struggle For Racial Equality
.... less appreciation than other races of people.
Let us also look at the fact that blacks are often socially
outcasted because of their race. We see this in The Runner. "You're
telling me you won't work with him because he's a negro?" "That's right."3
As we can see the above exert clearly shows how the black person was
outcasted. Bullet's coach asked him to train with another person on the
team but Bullet refused to train with him because he is black.
Another quote that shows how blacks are still in a struggle for
racial equality is in short commentary, A Fair World for All by Dorothy
Canfield Fisher:
"Suppose that you are .....

Blacks Treated As Lower Class Citizens
.... usually a symbol of middle- or higher- class citizen. "They are so close
to their ancestors learned to read and write at the risk of severe
punishment, that learning is almost a sacred privilege (Griffin 125)." This
quote shows how the whites had deprived them of an education for many
centuries. The quote also shows how an education is a privilege for a lower
class citizen and is taken for granted for middle- and higher- class
citizens.
In today's society blacks are still being persecuted in schools. An
example in today's society that blacks are still being discriminated
against is in Corvallis, Oregon. At Oregon Stat .....

The Need For An Official Language
.... Different gruops will have conflict since they
don't share the same culture, habit and language. The harmony of the whole
society is going to break. Development and growth of our society will slow
down, and everyone have to suffer from it. To avoid this, communication is
needed to eliminate the conflict and misunderstanding. This means we need
to have a proper language that everyone can learn and use. English is the
best choice since most people know it. So it is necessary to make English
as the official language.
If English were the official language, all kinds of documents and
publications in business and government wo .....

Chivalry
.... and duties. A page was educated in wrestling, tilting with
spears, and military exercises that were done on horseback. He was also
taught dancing and playing of musical instruments in their leisure time.
As a page, a boy was taught how to carve and serve food as a waiter, and
other services around the castle. It was his duty to help the master of
the castle in anyway needed. These tasks were not hard labor, but simply
prepared him for what was yet to come. (Microsoft Bookshelf)
By the time a page was 14, he was expected to qualify as a
competent squire. Now with the more laborious course, his real training
began. He mus .....

Civilize The Wilderness
.... The fact is,
that many people believe that the wilderness is like an unborn country. A
country that has nothing and is striving to become more advanced. We see
this as an opportunity to better it and make it seem like we are actually
helping. But, are we really helping? In my opinion, no. I feel that we
are destroying something natural and something of beauty.
In many ways we are making the wilderness worse by civilizing it.
We put unnatural objects into the wilderness, and it destroys the
wilderness' natural beauty. Thoreau's ideal is to pretty much leave the
wilderness as it is. If you need to inhabit it, don't use anyt .....

Communication Skills
.... and ideas. This is how different things can effect one's
communication skill, speaking.
A second communication skill is body language, a very personal way
of expressing yourself without words. One's body language can carry a
whole conversation without even saying a word. Sign language is an
excellent example of this, one can spend there whole life communicating
only with there body. Still one can be able to understand exactly how a
person is trying to express themselves. Speaking and body language goes
hand to hand, without gestures when talking one cannot truly explain
certain things to someone. Also there is no visua .....
