American And Nigerian Culture
.... it is just assumed that teenagers were involved. (Unfortunately, Uche,
a teenager from Igbuno, has committed this heinous crime). Also, when the people
of Akpei find that someone is stealing from their huts, again without any
evidence, they surmise that teenagers are to blame. Lastly, Okei's ( Okei is a
teen who lives in Igbuno and is the novel's main character) Uncle Obi Agiliga is
convinced that the teenagers of Igbuno are setting an terrible immoral example
for the upcoming generation.
How many teenagers in our society have not had an immediate finger of
blame pointed at them when something happens or goes wrong? How .....

Middle Class Blacks' Burden
.... The people that doubt the work of an African American can
obviously be seeing only the skin color. Lenita McClain states, "I am burdened
daily with showing whites that blacks are people." Shelby Steele asks, "After
all, since when had white Americans taken note of anything but color when it
came it blacks?" Our nation, which is supposed to preserve equal rights to
everyone, is weakened when certain Americans feel they are judged on a day to
day basis by their skin color. Some might argue that blacks and whites are
equal, but it is obvious through these essays that this is not so.
If being stereotyped by som .....

Animal Rights
.... that way. In
other laboratories animals are confined to small cages or locked up so that thay
can't move. They are then used to test cosmetics and household chemicals. They
have chemicals poured on to their eyes and skin to see if they cause irritation.
These experiments would hurt the animals by causing burns and evn blinding them
sometimes. I don't think it is right to hold these animals, caged against their
wills and hurting them repeatedly. Nothing is done to ease or prevent their
pain and suffering. There must be a better way to test substances without in
iflicting suffering on innocent, bewildered animals. Some scient .....

The Media
.... leader that should have to get the tribe out of
trouble in any way that he could. It is not our business to send them our money
to get food for the people that got themselves into trouble, but I think it
makes people feel good to donate things to needy people. I just think that the
media isn't telling people the whole story. Maybe the starving people spent all
their money on drugs? I doubt that many people would send their hard earned
cash if they knew that the person was just going to buy more drugs with it.
I think that the media has been messing up stories and opinions, but
I'm sure that they did some good work also. It wou .....

National Association For The Advancement Of Colored People
.... and John Dewey. In a matter of two months,
another conference was held. As a result of that conference, the NAACP was born.
A distinct factor of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People, which set it apart from its congruent movement, the Niagara Movement,
was involvement of both races. The early success was due in large part to the
interracial membership (Franklin 91). A large part of the membership consisted
of white socialist and liberals (Franklin). For some time the NAACP was white-
led. In time the Association became black dominated; Specifically, under the
guidance of James Weldon Johnson. During .....

Appearances - A Universal Concern
.... himself very attractive indeed. Yet, so do the tall, smartly dressed
businesspersons with their suit, tie, and white handkerchief. Men and women of
the Victorian era, when women's ankles were not even permitted to be exposed,
would surely be shocked at the revealing outfits that have been donned by
members of today's society. In other words, one's perception of beauty is
greatly influenced by the surrounding environment and the social groups to which
he belongs. Yet, whatever one's perception of beauty, one thing is the same.
This is that all have taken great pains about their appearance.
Why are good appearances so impo .....

Appearance Vs. Reality Of Modern Music Affect On Teenagers
.... accessible then most people are aware of this so
they start to pay attention to it, they see these extravagant people with no
boundaries, limits or regulations. Most of modern "rock stars" have a catch
something that stands out from the rest which leads to peoples attention. Also
most "rock stars" these days have a relationship with the teens, the teens see
themselves (or what they want to call themselves) in the "rock stars"
presentation of their selves, but they take it to extremes so the teens say "hey
they are like me but better" so it becomes an obsession to conform. These are
some reasons why teens are obsessed by "rock st .....

United States Of American: Personal Freedom
.... "I do not need my freedom when I'm dead. I cannot
live on tomorrow's bread." He recognizes the need for freedom in its entirety
without compromise or fear.
I think Langston Hughes captures the essence of the American immigrants'
quest for freedom in his poem, "Freedom's Plow." He accurately describes
American's as arriving with nothing but dreams and building America with the
hopes of finding greater freedom or freedom for the first time. He depicts how
people of all backgrounds worked together for one cause: freedom.
I selected Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 as a fictitious example of the
evils of censorship in a world t .....

Racial Discrimination
.... those around him when he
feels they are not equal to him. He may regard those of different races or
nationalities as "bad" or "dirty" because they do not have the same skin color
as he does or they may cherish beliefs that are contrary to the ones by which he
lives his life.
These qualities describe the man who tells his son that it is okay to make fun
of people who are different because differences are bad. A child who is
repeatedly told such things will believe them because "mom and dad never lie".
This idea, inculcated in them as children, is like a grain of sand caught in the
clutches of an oyster. It eats away at their minds .....

The Battle Of The Sexes
.... then what they are.
When god created women, he gave them the ability to have children. This
advantage kind of gives women superiority over men. I'm sure if men were able
to they would have children, but they can't. Back in the eighteen hundreds it
was expected that women stay home and take care of the children and the men
would work and bring home the money to support the family. Today there is still
the man that goes out and works for a living and the woman who stays home and
watches the kids, but we are steering toward a balance between the two.
Families consist of two working parents and children. This compromise sh .....

Being Young

this problem. They have introduced a rule that allows pupils to go at school
only if they are dressed in a specific school-uniform. But many students don't
like these uniforms. They want to decide for themselves how to dress.
During the last years it has become more usual for parents to divorce. Some
people think that this conflict may have a positiv effect on kids, because the
children get a bigger family to hold on to. Others think the opposite. But it is
obvious that parental separation can harm or ruin many childhoods. I don't think
it is healthy for the kids if they feel dragged between their mother and fathe .....
