If attitudes are the mental expectations about jobs, relationships,
financial status and so on, then these very powerful thoughts must be the

Intentional Destruction Of Native American Cultures
.... It allotted small parcels of land to Indians.
Many settlers adopted Indian children to obtain their land. This act, not
only destroyed the tribal system, but also damaged the lives of many
Indians. Indian children were often sent to boarding schools. These
schools robbed them of their culture. It encouraged the Indians to be
ashamed of their heritage. This later caused many social insecurities in
the Indian people.
The social reformers of the day were well meaning, but very
ignorant. They saw the Allotment Act as a way to give Indians land. To
them, the boarding schools were seen as a positive way to assimilate the

Is There Romance Left?

Call me a hopeless romantic, but I am a firm believer in lightning
or bells sounding when you meet the “right one”. My ex-boyfriend and I
started dating when I was fourteen years old. At that time, I felt that no

Why I’m Proud To Be An American
.... joy of living in
a democracy. We have the right to vote. This means that it is up to us to
decide who becomes president of our country. We are very lucky to live in
this country and enjoy all of its freedoms. I will always be proud to be

Child Labor
.... States still have their share of problems. In
a recent awareness swap between American and Bangladesh children, both
groups experienced the sight of little kids laboring in sweatshops.
Although the UN wants to help, they are somewhat limited in their
abilities to make dramatic changes. If they put legal restrictions, such
as trade sanctions against imports from countries using child labor, it
could actually bring more harms to the children than good. UNICEF has
recently decided that in order to combat this problem, education is the
key. By providing education for the children of poor nations, the UN

Teenage Love

we make when we find someone who makes us happy, and who we trust with our
innermost thoughts and feelings. We hear that love will make us happy. We
hear that single people are lonely. We are told that if we are not part
of a couple, we are not complete. We all want to be part of this thing
called ‘love’.
Okay, we get a boyfriend or girlfriend, now everything should be
perfect. But, it’s not perfect, because life never is. It is easy to
become disappointed. Feelings can change. One person may decide to say
good-bye. When that happens, the one left behind will feel rejected.

More Freedom Or Safety -- What Would You Choose?
.... students probably are incapable of properly using a gun
and that makes it even more dangerous for them to have one. Even though
Bishop Eustace does not have metal detectors nor are the students searched
when they enter a building, I think that if this is what would be necessary
to ensure the safety of the community, it should be done with no arguments.
If a student does not want a teacher to see what they are bringing to
school, then it most likely doesn’t belong on school property.

The Real Issue Of Youth Violence

things every year. Yet, I have never felt compelled to commit any act of
violence that I see on the screen. What is on the screen stays on the
screen. I have known that from the very beginning. My parents taught me at
an early age that what is on the screen is for fun, and it is not to be
done off the screen. Video games actually act as a release. If there is
trouble in the home or problems in school, one has the opportunity to play
a video game to displace anger; much like beating up a pillow. "'But such

Straight-Edge: What It Is And What It Isn't
.... of the philosophies that a straight-edge
person believes in. There have been theories that an earlier punk band,
called the Teen Idols (which included Ian MacKaye and the drummer from
Minor Threat*), started the ideology of straight-edge, but the term was not
used until MacKaye wrote and published the song. Minor Threat have since
disbanded, but hardcore fans everywhere still follow the words of the song.
(MacKaye later joined up with the punk band Fugazi and is tragically no

Negative Effects On Soldiers From War

parents, and brothers, which sometimes leaves them alone in a harsh world.
In addition, the physical health of the children is affected because of
injuries, lack of food and medical care. All of this leads to emotional
problems that can conflict with the children’s development and future well
being.
Finally, war can leave lasting repercussions on the countries that are
