Prohibition...A Waste?
.... saloon and to regard it as the most
dangerous social institution then threatening the family. The Anti-Saloon
League of America (ASL), organized in Ohio, effectively marshaled such
people into political action. State chapters of the ASL endorsed candidates
for public office and demanded of their state governments that the people
be allowed to vote yes or no on the question of continuing to license the
saloons.” (Encarta 1) The ASL held powerful members in Congress and so was
able to pass an amendment for prohibition. This amendment, quickly
ratified, was simply writing on paper without enforcement.

The Mafia
.... from Italy, began around 1870. “
Of the approximately 5.3 million that have followed, approximately 25
percent came from Sicily” (Italian 4). The mass immigration took place
for many reasons. Many wanted to move because of poverty and rampant
inflation. Others wanted to move because of social and economic
immobility. Another reason for immigration to the United States was
because Mussolini thought that the Mafia was a threat to his facist regime.
He began an Anti-Mafia campaign. It’s leader was Cesare Mori, who was
known as the “Iron Prefect.” His campaign caused the arrests of thousands
of people that were thought to .....

.... the sole purpose of generating
profits from his/her victims. His crime is consciously and deliberately
thought out in order to make earnings as quickly as possible. The United
States Officials believe that the easiest form of organized crime is

Capital Punishment
.... first state to abolish it
for murder in 1847. Today, it is virtually abolished in all of Western
Europe and most of Latin America.
In America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East (except Israel) most
countries still retain the death penalty for various crimes and impose it
with varying frequency.
Shooting and hanging are the two most common methods of execution
followed by beheading and lethal injection which is becoming almost
universal in America and is also used in the Philippines, China and
Guatemala. Electrocution and the gas chamber are used only in America and
seem to be disappearing rapidly. Stoning for sexual offenc .....

Capital Punishment
.... believe the murderer doesn’t deserve the death penalty. Chances are
if a person is insane enough to kill another human being in the first
place, they aren’t going to care what happens to them. They realize that
their execution, in most cases, is going to be short and painless. This isn’
t a just punishment for someone who has inflicted severe pain upon another
life. Our court system, after initiating a life sentence without parole,
should not offer these killers the comforts they have in jail. They should
be treated more or less like animals. In short, let the ones who institute
a crime unwillingly live, but do not let .....

The Issue Of Gun Control
.... that by making it difficult for guns to be
bought and registered for the American public there is a threat to the
personal safety of American families everywhere. However controlling the
sale and distribution of firearms is necessary because of the homicide rate
involving guns. In 1988 there were 9000 handgun related murders in America.
Metropolitan centers and some suburban communities of America are setting
new records for homicides by handguns. Larger Metropolitan centers have ten
times the murder rate of all Western Europe. For example in Washington,D.C.
there was an estimated 400 homicides including guns. In addition, gun

Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment
.... you to look at a picture of Timothy McVeigh and to
forgive him," said Miller. "If we profess to be Christians, then we are
called to love and forgive." Once the sermon ended, Rev. Miller, Clinton,
and their wives got together for brunch at the Sweet Life Cafi.
What the Rev. did not know was that 24-year-old Jeremy T Charron; an Epsom
New Hampshire police officer was gunned down in cold blood just hours
before Miller's sermon on forgiving murderers. That Sunday marked
Charron's 44th day as a full time police officer, the job he dreamed of
since he was 6 years old.
Jeremy Charron leaves behind his parents, two sets of grandparen .....

example of this would be when a bank robber holds up a bank and orders the

robber is threatening to harm the workers while steeling the money.
Define discovery in the litigation process and identify and explain the
most commonly used discovery techniques.
During the litigation process, discovery is the period in a civil
suit where the parties involved search for information relevant to the

The Impact The Death Penalty Has On The Global Community
.... error remain all too real. We have no
way of judging how many innocent persons have been executed, but we can be
certain there were some."(The Death Penalty In America) Now days there are
a lot more advanced technology such as the DNA testing that they can use
to prove someone's innocence. The criminals had a tough time proving
their innocence because of the tough situations they were put in such as
bad representation, and racial prejudice.(The Death Penalty In America)
It is awful to know that people actually spent most of their years in jail
trying to prove their innocence, only to be put to death. This is just one

How Should The United States Treat Todays Criminals?
.... to a number of
rehabilitation programs believing that this decision to take human life was
caused by the environment that the inmate lived in.
Unlike the “Medical Model” the “Justice Model’” will not sentence a person
to rehabilitation, but it will provide rehabilitation programs and certain
incentives to participate in them. The belief of the “Justice Model” is
that a person cannot be forced to rehabilitate his/her self. Statistics
have proven that if people are forced into rehabilitation they will do what
is necessary to get through the program and not actually attempt to change
themselves. My best friend was out of control, .....

criminal court, the vehicle seizure will be part of a separate proceeding
in civil court under state forfeiture laws; because civil proceedings
require only a preponderance of evidence for guilt -- rather than guilt
beyond a reasonable doubt -- motorists acquitted of drunken driving in
criminal court may still lose their cars in civil court; vehicles
belonging to banks or car rental agencies can be returned but the
businesses will be responsible for paying storage fees; the vehicles of
motorists arrested on the lesser charge of driving while impaired -- with a
blood alcohol level of .06 to .09 percent -- will not be s .....

The Pros And Cons About Legalizing Marijuana
.... in both males and
females, and unhealthy and smaller children born to women who used
marijuana during pregnancy. The
Drug Enforcement
Administration believes that since marijuana is not accepted by any
American health associations, there is no reason to legalize the drug.
They think that the main reason why pro marijuana advocates use the medical
use argument is because the uninformed public can be easily convinced to
support the movement. Simply not enough evidence proves that marijuana can
be used medically (Claim V). Unlike the D.E.A., lobbying groups such as the
Cannabis Action Network and the Indiana Civil Liberties U .....
