The attack on Iwo Jima alone has cost us 25000 casualties and nearly 7000 deaths, a rather high price to pay for an eight-square-mile island. Okinawa cost us even more, we received 50000 casualties while the Japanese suffered 100000. Too many American lives have already been lost with just the acquirement of two islands, it is not worth it to keep fighting like this any longer.
