The Plague
.... can be spread through aerosol
droplets released through coughs, sneezes, or through fluid contact. It may also
become a secondary result of a case of untreated bubonic or septicemic plague.
Although not as common as the bubonic strain, it is more deadly. It has an
untreated mortality rate on nearly 100%, as compared to 50% untreated mortality
for bubonic plague. It attacks the respiratory track, furthering the cycle.
The third type of plague is septemic. It is spread by direct bodily fluid
contact. It may also develop as a secondary result of untreated bubonic or
pneumonic plague.

As mentioned before, the most k .....

The Relationship Between Food Concentration, And Respiratory Activity
.... concentration. Since yeast fermentation
requires sucrose and water, aproximately equal proportions of both would yield
to the most respiratory activity.
Once the sucrose concentration was serially cut to the desired level,
the experimenter added 5 ml of yeast suspension to each one of the ten test
tubes.
Then, ten small test tubes were placed invertedly into each one of the
large test tubes, making sure no air bubbles remained within the small tibes.
The test tubes were left 24 hours, allowing for fermentation to take
place. But, no respiratory activity was detected.
In previous experimentation, it was found that yea .....

Stress
.... of being under stress. Some are frequently under
so much stress that they assume the feeling is normal.
Pros
By hearing the word "stress" most people think of something unpleasant and bad.
But that is only conditionally true. Stress has also several positive aspects:
- A lot of people (students!) take stress as a replacement for self-discipline.
They just can't start working without time-pressure. They need to know a
certain date when they must finish their work.. (like students before a test)
- It is known, that people work better, faster and more effective under stress.
There are people, who are even more creative under .....

Bipolar Affective Disorder
.... thinking, indecision, and recurrent thoughts of death and suicide.
The manic episodes are characterized by elevated or irritable mood, increased
energy, decreased need for sleep, poor judgment and insight, and often reckless
or irresponsible behavior (Hollandsworth, Jr. 1990 ).
Bipolar affective disorder affects approximately one percent of the
population (approximatly three million people) in the United States. It is
presented by both males and females. Bipolar disorder involves episodes of
mania and depression. These episodes may alternate with profound depressions
characterized by a pervasive sadness, almost inability to .....

The Worlds Fight Against Microbes
.... of this they are extremely hazardous. Laboratory studies of these
viruses must be carried out in special maximum containment facilities, such as
the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia and the United States
Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), at Fort
Detrick in Frederick, Maryland (CDC I,II).
The Ebola hemorrhagic fever in humans is a severe, systemic illness
caused by infection with Ebola virus. There are four subtypes of Ebola virus
(Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan, Ebola-Ivory Coast, and Ebola-Reston), which are not
just variations of a single virus, but four distinct viruses. T .....

Anabolic Steroids
.... Male hormones have two different effects in the body.
Hormones have an anabolic effect, which stimulates growth, and they have an
androgenic effect, which increases male sexual characteristics. Anabolic
steroids are constructed synthetically to maximize the anabolic (growth) effect
and minimize the androgenic (male characteristic) effect. Steroids are
molecules that occur naturally in the body and are carried in the bloodstream
and act as messengers. The most important of these messages tell the body to
increase creatine phosphate synthesis and to increase protein synthesis
(Schwarzenegger, 722). These messages are del .....

.... involved. These cases are mild however, and not full blown. The onset
of Tourette Syndrome must be before the age of fifteen, and usually occurs after
the age of two. The mean age onset of motor tics is seven. The mean age onset
for vocal tics is nine. In order for a person to be classified as having
Tourette Syndrome they must have both multiple motor tics and vocal tics. These
tics however do not have to occur everyday. In fact, affected individuals may
rarely exhibit all of the symptoms, or all of the tics. The vocal and motor tics
must also occur within the same year, for a person to be classified as having

Blood And Excerise
.... mind to accomplish gains in
performance even in the presence of lactic acid. Coaches and athletes should
design training programs with this being a primary focus. This is done by two
basic components of training. Long Slow Distance (LSD) training beyond the
normal racing distance, will develop tissue enzyme adaptations that will rely
upon the use of free fatty acids for energy production, which will result in
less lactic acid being produced. LSD training will also increase the rate of
lactic acid removal from the blood and muscles. During continuos steady state
exercise, you increase capillary density and mitochondria function .....

Concepts Of Lifetime Fitness
.... brain will
signal the blood vessels near the skin to constrict or narrow in diameter. This
occurs so the heat deep in the muscles is conserved. Since the vessels are now
smaller in diameter, less blood is needed to fill them. Since less blood is
needed through the vessels, the heart begins to slow. If the body remains in
this slowed state, hypothermia could result. Hypothermia is the condition in
which metabolic processes are inhibited. The medical world has taken advantage
of this by inducing hypothermia in patients that are undergoing organ
transplants.
To fight temperatures higher than normal, as in exercise or on hot day .....

Two Brains?
.... Most people, if they thought about it, would identify more with their
left brain. In fact, many of us think we are our left brains. All of that non-
stop verbalization that goes on in our heads is the dominant left brain talking
to itself. Our culture- particularly our school system with its emphasis on the
three Rs (decidedly left-brain territory) - effectively represses the intuitive
and artistic right brain. If you don't believe it, see how far you get at the
office with the right brain activity of daydreaming.
As you read, your left-side is sensibly making connections and analysing
the meaning of the words, th .....

Human Variations In High Altitude Populations
.... which I will examine in this paper are the Tibetan people of the
Asian Himalayas and the Quechua of the South American Andes.
The Quechua are an Indian people who inhabit the highlands of Peru and
Bolivia. They speak Quechua, which is a branch of the Andean-Equitorial stock.
They show many remnants of Inca heritage by their houses, music, and religion
which has pagan rites under the Roman-Catholic surface. Their villages consist
of kin groups . Their marriage partners are taken from within each village.
Agriculture is the dominant subsistence pattern in the central Andean
region but the Nunoa region where the Que .....
