Bloc Quebecois
.... deficit
reduction will ensure more efficiency at all levels of government. The plan
we have is in three basic steps to cut $10 billion from the federal deficit
per year. 1 Our strategy is to cut and eliminate government spending and
inefficiency by about an estimated $6 billion annually, without touching
any of the social programs. 2, We would also chop the military budget by
25% to save approximately $3 billion. 3 We would also give the
responsibility of job training programs to the province of Quebec to save
nearly $1 billion. Another part of our scheme would be to have $5 billion
per year transferred from existing programs t .....

Bill Clinton's Election Will Brighten America's Future
.... is
racial conflicts. As evidenced by the Los Angeles riots, racial tensions
run high in this country. Many African-Americans and Hispanics are
resentful of the white power structure, and are almost at the point of
doing something drastic to gain control. The Republican administrations
have basically ignored these problems of the inner-city, hoping that they
would just be erased by prosperity. These problems are not going to go
away, and Bill Clinton is willing to adjust current policy so it favors all
Americans, not just white, upper-class men. Overall, Clinton has much more
modern solutions to foreboding problems facing Ameri .....

Fascism As Opposed To Communism
.... in control of two very similar gove rnments. In any rise of
power, there needs to be a period of careful planning requiring much
thought. These two men had very little history with which to work with
which to model their revolutions. Times had been changing rapidly,
technological improvements in the fields of manufacturing, transportation,
and communication made this period of time very different from any other.
Hitler spent his time imprison writing his book, Mein Kampf, filling it
full of warped ideas of conquest and superiority of one race over another.
I think it is strange that such works would go unnoticed with nobody left

Our Living Shield: The First Amendment
.... to more realistic terms during its latter half of
utilization.
During the first century of the First Amendment, the First
Amendment was paid a glance by all when it came to actually carrying out
the freedoms guaranteed by this amendment. For example, in 1794,
Pennsylvanian backcountry farmers protested a whiskey tax. The protesters
were not violent such as those of the previous Shay's Rebellion. George
Washington sent in a militia to crush the rebellion denying them of their
First Amendment right to "peaceably assemble." Later, in 1836, antiÄ sl

Constitutional Convention: Day By Day Occurrences
.... and has seen many nations. He is old and wise
and I want to talk to him before he passes away. Right now he is at the
age of 81, I think.
May 31
Recently the convention has become vexatious. The summers in this
towne are very humid. We are forced to keep the window open everywhere.
Flies are about at all times and it is hard to concentrate. Also, some of
the discussions at this convention are sluggish and tiresome.
One good thing about the weather is that it has given me time to
reflect on the Virginia Plan proposed a few day ago.
The one point I disagree with regarding the Virginia Plan is that i .....

The First Amendment
.... when he says, "I do not need my freedom
when I'm dead. I cannot live on tomorrow's bread." He recognizes the need
for freedom in its entirety without compromise or fear.
I think Langston Hughes captures the essence of the American
immigrants' quest for freedom in his poem, "Freedom's Plow." He accurately
describes American's as arriving with nothing but dreams and building
America with the hopes of finding greater freedom or freedom for the first
time. He depicts how people of all backgrounds worked together for one
cause: freedom.
I selected Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 as a fictitious example of
the evils of cens .....

Different Forms Of Government
.... the Federal
governments intervention in such places as commerce and labor relations.
Amendments allowed congress to raise taxes and opened up a wide range of
new legislation. The Great Depression and it's "New Deal" created many new
systems that were completely new at the time such as Social Security,
Unemployment insurance, and Bureaucracies to run these systems were created.
The Framers intended for Small Government through the system of
checks and balances, making it hard for the government from doing too much.
Large Government is entrenched because many people want it and it would be
very difficult to trim back the Gov .....

US Politics And Foreign Policy
.... it is
interesting to think what would happen if they did separate? Would
Canadians be in too bad a mood to negotiate with Quebec if they separated?
Question is, would they negotiate at all? If Quebec did separate, the
border ramifications would be just astronomical, trade routes would be
chopped off, and a whole number of other things just too much to explain.
Reading an article about a speech that external affairs minister
Joe Clark was presenting jogged my mind a bit. Talking about the serious
costs if Quebec separated, such as the free trade treaty with the U.S., I
thought what about a new economic union. Would .....

The Communications Decency Act

technologies present a serious challenge to legislators and judges who try to
meet the demands of economic and social change while protecting this most basic
and fundamental personal freedom." Networks and the Internet make it easy for
anyone with the proper equipment to look at information based around the world

speech activity anonymously has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court." (Cavazos

The Communications Decency Act
.... 1, 1995, Senator Exon, a Democrat from Nebraska, and Senator
Gorton, a Republican from Washington, introduced the first bill towards
regulating online porn. This was the first incarnation of the
Telecommunications Reform Bill.
On April 7, 1995, Senator Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, introduces
bill S714. Bill S714 is an alternative to the Exon/Gorton bill. This bill
commissions the Department of Justice to study the problem to see if additional
legislature (such as the CDA) is even necessary.
The Senate passed the CDA as attached to the Telecomm reform bill on
June 14, 1995 with a vote of 84-16. The Leahy bill does not pass, .....

Imperialism
.... the word of Rudyard Kipling, who said
it was the white mans burden to educate the people of the underdeveloped world,
spread the customs of what they perceived was a superior western culture, and to
convert people to Christianity, since it was believed that the souls of the non-
believers would not be saved.
The new era of imperialism brought about important and farreaching
effects. Through the creation of global empires, the imperial powers helped
spread the Industrial Revolution and the capitalist system around the world.
Christianity, western European languages, and Imperialism benefited
underdeveloped regions t .....
