Bilbo The Hobbit
.... the courage to save the dwarves from perils along the way, such as goblins, giant spiders, and elven dugeons. He did this all with the help of a Ring, enchanted to make the wearer invisible. "Bless my soul, a hobbit CAN be useful!" But usefulness in itself does not a task complete. There was still the fact that the dwarf's gold had not been claimed, and Smaug still lay in the heart of the mountain. The band of travelers had crossed much terrain, hills, mountains, swamps, and gloomy forests, including the dark Mirkwood itself. Within these settings, conflicts with the other races were allowed, and the travels caused hardships of .....

Usage Of The English Language
.... and their social class. For this reason usage was kept in a formal state and English grammarians devoted themselves to “refining, ascertaining, and fixing” the language (Bishop xxii). “The traditionalists maintain that language is subject to a higher morality and those who care about the preservation of language must defend traditional values in the face of growing laxity and permissiveness” (Numberg xxvi). Good grammar consists of conformity to the rules proposed by the traditionalists and should be used correctly in the construction of sentences. Bad grammar is anything that deviates from these rules. As strongly as the t .....

The Crucible: Issues
.... this play had an inner sense of shame and guilt among them but nobody could express it because of the fear of being persecuted. To me that is not a religion. That is a trap. Or a “catch 22” if you might. These people were so caught up in God that they forgot the morals and values of life and got caught up in making God happy. When they were really just committing their own sins.
Also in this play you can feel a strong relation to the maturity of the mind and the ignorance and abuse of power. I find it hard to believe that the whole spark that ignited Salem into a hurricane of hysteria came from a young group of adolescent gi .....

Journey Towards Wealth
.... help, or until some of the older college help returned from school. So even thought I could be the best worker in the world I would have to prove myself to everyone. First impressions can be very important, but with the case of my boss, Ed, you have to talk to him for a while before you can begin to trust him. He had long dirty blonde (a color) hair and a beard, with an accent straight from the hills of West Virginia. But you shouldn't form an opinion about someone until you have a chance to get to know the person. He turned out to be the best boss that I have ever had, and he taught me more in one summer about life that I ha .....

Silent Dancing: Memories Of Childhood
.... complete scene in color I can recall from those years.
-Judith Ortiz Cofer, "Silent Dancing"
In her essay "Silent Dancing," Cofer recounts the memories of her childhood induced while watching this short piece of film. Each scene brought about more memories, as colors and scents of the past were relived through it. Because the film was silent, however, those parts of the past had to be made up…explored by her.
When I think of the things that remind me of my childhood and development, one scene in particular stands out. I experienced more learning and exploration on the playground at age eight than any other time I .....

The Law Should Respect The Intent Of The Deceased
.... meningitis, and passed away before his plan could be realized. In order to fulfill the dream shared with her husband, Diane Blood persuaded doctors to extract a sperm sample from Stephen Blood when he was in a coma. Stephen died in March 1995. No matter how hard Diane tried to fight the court, she has not received permission to use her husband's sperm since consent is required under the British law. As a result, this law has destroyed the couple's dream and has ruined the life and future of a devoted wife. Diane is left with no company and no dream.
This law also indirectly denies the right of husband and wife to ha .....

Greek Values In "The Odyssey"
.... An example of this was when Eumaeus the swineherd welcomes Odysseus disguised as the bedraggled stranger. He throws his own bedcover over a pile of boughs as a seat for Odysseus, who does not reveal his identity. Observing Zeus's commandment to be kind to guests, Eumaeus slaughters a prime boar and serves it with bread and wine. That night the hero sleeps by the fire under the swineherd's spare cloak, while Eumaeus himself sleeps outside in the rain with his herd. Another example of the hospitality the Greeks show is when Penelope has her servant give Odysseus, still disguised, a foot bath. After a long talk Penelope says

Beowulf: A Hero
.... his bare hands, the same as Grendel. He then wrestles with Grendel without the aide of any of his men, one on one with the monster, and tears off one of Grendel's arms. This certainly demonstrates great courage on the part of Beowulf.
Beowulf also demonstrates a very noble character. He is gracious, loyal, and above all truly valorous. Beowulf, should he have wished it, most likely could have taken Hrothgar's place as king of the Danes. He had proven his worthiness and in some ways, that he was better than Hrothgar by ridding his kingdom of the evil threat. But rather than seeking Hrothgar's throne, Beowulf sought only .....

OJ Simpson
.... of other problems between the two. It is said that in everything written by Shakespeare, there is a line or scenario for every event after it was written. In William Shakespeare’s Othello, Othello is obsessed with Desdemona. This obsession finally causes Othello’s demise. The jealousy and obsession shown by O.J. almost mirror the actions of Othello. O.J.’s motive was simple; he was jealous that Ron Goldman was with Nicole. Although there is no proof that Ron and Nicole ever dated, O.J.’s history of abuse is strong enough to give motive and probable cause to the death’s of Nicole and Ron.
In Killing Time, a timeline is laid .....

Want of Rest. I was very hungry, and my whole stock

Account of my Rowing; but I insisted on their taking

The Souls Of Black Folk
.... of one of its members."
In effect, Du Bois seeks to expose his own soul through his tribulations as a black American. But he speaks of a double consciousness whereby the Negro can only see himself through the "revelation of the other world." That is, of white America. He makes a distinction between the American soul and the Negro soul as the two "warring and conflicting parts of the African American identity, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder"(5). In this paper I will explore Du Bois' concept of double consciousness as it is dealt with in relation to the education of the Negro, in order to outline .....
