Demeter And Persephone: Relationship Between Parent And Child
.... the possessions of
their parents and had no say in their future plans. As she was being
carried away she led out a cry calling her father Zeus and all the other
gods to help her, but no one came.
The only ones who heard her pleas were Hecate, goddess of the moon
and daughter of Persaeus, and lord Helius the sun god, son of Hyperion.
Them hearing her pleas was like children identifying with each other of the
mistreatment of parents to their children. It was as if they had seen or
heard of this happening before, and now it was taking place again.
When Demeter heard of this, she was greatly in pain. It was as if
her very hear .....

T.S Eliot's View On Aesthetic Values
.... his own country has a simultaneous existence and composes a
simultaneous order." He mostly talks to the educated male and beauty for
him is found in these great writers of his time. He also say's, " In a
peculiar sense he will be aware also that he must inevitably be judged by
the standards of the past. I say judged, not amputated, by them; not
judged to be good as, or worse or better than, the dead; and certainly not
judged by the canons of dead critics. It is a judgment, a comparison, in
which two things are measured by each other."
Virginia Woolf, on the other hand, does not have a set of defined
criteria as Eliot does to .....

Objectivism And The Work Of Ayn Rand
.... to think. The good is that which is useful to and promotes
life. The life in question is ones own life. However, one doesn't have
the responsibility for the lives of others, except in a negative sense..
not to interfere with the rights of others to pursue their own life.
Ayn Rand wrote a great deal of non-fiction after making her name as a
fiction author, including THE VIRTUE OF SELFISHNESS, CAPITALISM: THE
UNKNOWN IDEAL, THE ROMANTIC MANIFESTO, PHILOSOPHY: WHO NEEDS IT (her
answer is everyone), and others. A group developed around her in New York,
ironically dubbed "the collective" which payed homage to Rand. Her
closest .....

Robert Frost And Ralph Waldo Emerson: Similarities In Nature
.... states that Frost and Emerson "agree on the central importance
of symbol and metaphor.
They have a common preoccupation with rural subjects. They share
basic sense of 'correspondence'. . . ."(Ryan125)Also, these two writers are
similar in that they both tend to write about the same subject matter.
Many of the titles of Frost's poems: "Mending Wall," "Storm-Fear," "The
White- Tailed Hornet," "I Could Give All to Time," and "Spring Pools" are
similar to the titles of some of Emerson's poems: "The Snow- Storm," "Give
All to Love," "Two Rivers," "The Humble-Bee," "The Rhodora." These
similarities are superficial and .....

The Picture
.... Love and her
lover scale those endless heights, sadly, you, with tear-misted eyes are
left far below, alone, with that wilted imperfect image clutched in your
hands.
The one I love has always, well, I suppose the term is "humored" me. I
have nothing to offer her that would mean anything to her, except my love,
an exceeding cheap commodity to those receiving it; and inhumanly expensive
to those giving it. But she has been free with her gifts, too. She gave
me her picture, my greatest material treasure; she has given me a few brief
moments of platonic joy in her company; and she has given me an
irreplaceable gift, the love insid .....

The Problem Of War And Peace
.... for my research that detailed the
cost and carnage of war, this one simple story moved me to want to add my
voice for world peace and to think that maybe one person can make a
difference for peace to come to the world.
My generation may well be the generation that brings total destruction or
total peace to the world. Therefore, the United Nations should think about
working together with government and educational cabinet members to put
together a unified educational program in the schools of every country in
the world to teach constructive approaches to resolve conflicts peacefully
within the family, school, and community enviro .....

A Time Capsule Of An-mei Hsu
.... family. It is also a
symbol of her mother, when it closes up she forgets her.
The pearl necklace given to her by the second wife is important.
This show's An-mei how easily people can deceive her by presents and such.
It was a fake pearl necklace made out of glass. This shows her not to
trust anyone from first glance.
The next important item is the white dress that her mother gives
her. This represents the first thing in her new life. He life of riches
starts with the receiving of the dress. I guess that you could say that
that began a new era.
The last thing is the house that she moves in to. Th .....

The Positive Influence Of Gods In The Odyssey

Hermes, warn them against danger.
Hermes gives Odysseus advice on how to avoid danger. As if
reaching the land of Circe isn't hard enough, now Odysseus must find a way
to get his men back from her. The person to help, is Hermes. Odysseus

house of Circe. However, this is a positive interference because he has
come to warn Odysseus of danger. Hermes says to Odysseus, .....

Heroes And The Defiance Of Fate
.... death is a direct blow to Achilles, and Achilles has
no choice, being the great warrior, but to seek revenge. His decision
guides fate, but at the same time, fate guides his decision. [ From one
point of view, we see that Achilles chooses not to fight of his own free
will and we see that Patrolelos chooses to masquearade in Achilles armor by
his own free will. From another point of view, we see that fate guided
these two friends to make these fatally flawed and fateful decisions.] We
must also understand that Achilles is selfish and full of himself and could
care less about the forces of fate. He thought of himself as invinci .....

Analysis Of Poe's "A Tell Tale Heart"
.... obsession is becoming
more furious. Then, already furious the protagonist hears a heartbeat. It
was a sound that, "a watch makes when enveloped in cotton." This was the
old man's heartbeat and it increased the protagonist's fury. Now the
narrator is full of fury. He also had an uncontrollable feeling of triumph
and power. The narrator under all this confidence, triumph and fury, barged
in to the room. Scaring the old man, the protagonist put him to the floor
and pulled the bed over him. The protagonist could still hear the heartbeat
but only for a moment as it died down. The deed was done. The evil eye
would no longer trouble th .....

Orwell's Politics And The English Language
.... is well
organized. He speaks with an earned authority on the subject and a clear
and concise manner. Orwell's essay is a valuable essay for the fledgling
writer, the political critic and all readers because, as Orwell says "in
our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics'. All issues are
political issues".
The essay Politics and the English Language offers numerous
examples and evidence for the reader to draw from. Orwell is allowing the
reader to recognize phrases that they have seen multiple times in their
daily reading. An example of this is that Orwell begins by citing five
passages of what he considers to .....

Comparison Of "Fall Of Man" And "Hamlet"
.... “The Fall of Man”. The breaks in this pattern
are quite often put there for emphasis on a line, word or point trying to
be made. Shakespeare also has a common amount of syllables, ten per line,
with a break in pattern for emphasizes, for example: “He hath, my lord,
wrung from me my slow leave”[I, II, 61], or “Aha boy, say'st thou so? Art
thou there, true”[I, V, 72] These schemes are found throughout both plays.
It is evident that Shakespeare learned this technique from medieval
writings such as “The Fall of Man”.
The other very clear effect of medieval writing on Shakespeare is
the similar plots. "The Fall of Man" is .....
