The Violent Reality Of Gangs
.... are strongly against their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The average child spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom. Since nobody can completely turn off their minds, kids must be learning something while watching the TV. Very few hours of television watched by children are educational, so other ideas are being absorbed during this period of time. Many shows on television today are extremely violent and are often shown this from a gang’s perspective. A normal adult can see that this is showing how .....

How To Overcome Shyness
.... will begin to excel in your relationships with other people around you.
First step: begin by saying ‘hi’ to 5 new people everyday. Not too long ago, I noticed that I even did not know how to perform the simple of saying ‘hi’ to people. Then, what happened? As I started to analyze myself, I could not come to any logical conclusion as to why that it scared me to acknowledge people I did not know. I remembered the times when I said ‘hi’ to people and they did not say ‘hi’ back, or even worse, when I said ‘hi’ and they looked at me like I was the devil. Did you feel like the devil? No, Instead, I started thinking about how good it .....

Mercy
.... gladiator would live. Mercy was granted only to those who had fought well, and their reward was that they would be allowed to fight another day. However, if the spectators had extended their hands with their thumbs pointed towards the ground, the victorious gladiator was ordered to kill his opponent. One source describes the judgment handed down by the spectators:
According to the most common tradition, when a gladiator had overpowered his opponent, he turned to the spectators. If they wished to spare the defeated man, they waved their handkerchiefs; to indicate that he should be killed, they turned down their thumbs. (Gladia .....

.... of complaints in the shipping department, and Tom believes that someone is setting him up. The poor performance in the shipping department has caused many problems. Deadlines have not been met, employee turnover rate is high, and John, my best salesman, is losing major accounts. Also, Paul, a promising young employee, who I have been thinking about replacing Tom with, has just informed me that he has been offered another job with another company. He also gave me an ultimatum. He said that if I cannot offer him a higher position soon, he would take the position with the other company. If I wanted to make the whole situation .....

Marketing Yourself: "How To Use Your Foreignness As An Asset!"
.... it is appropriate to believe that you can adjust and be flexible in your new job. Use this as a selling point during your job interview!
Many American employers now want "team players" who are flexible and understand cooperative management styles. They want employees who know how to cooperate, respect others, and work as a team. American culture, which was built on "rugged individualism," has become a culture of radical individualism. Many companies under the influence of Dr. Deming and his concepts of continuous quality improvement are trying to instill team work. Dr. Deming's greatest success has been in Japan where he was .....

Violence In Schools
.... say it is the media, and others blame the schools. Yet, the question still remains. What can be done to make schools safer for the children and staff?
One thing we need to do is learn to listen to our children and observe their behavior. According to Dr. Ronald D. Stephens, Executive Director of the National School Safety Center, there are some common characteristics among youth who have caused school- associated violent deaths. Accounts of these tragic incidents repeatedly indicate that in most cases, a troubled youth has demonstrated or has talked about problems with bullying and feelings of isolation, anger, depression, and fru .....

The long Revolutionary War, which touched the lives of many people, naturally had a significant effect on American women. [T]he departure of so many men to fight in the Patriot armies left wives, mothers, sisters and daughters in charge of farms and businesses. Some women handled these tasks with great success. (Brinnley 171) The change made women understand that cooking and taking care o .....

Transition From Adolescence To Young Adulthood
.... after high school permits them to grow and develop intellectually and personally. I feel that attending college plays a very important role in gaining experience for the real world, acquiring knowledge beyond my career field, and growing cognitively by thinking in new ways. College is the perfect time to learning to think cognitively because although learning continues through adulthood, it becomes more laborious the older a person gets (315). In support of this idea, Perry found that first-year students tended to depend heavily on the advice of authority figures to find which ways of thinking were right and which were wrong ( .....

Attack On The Tobacco Companies
.... companies began printing the Surgeon General’s warnings on the packages. An action the people have taken against the tobacco companies is law suits. The industry always had such a powerful defense helping them win so many suits. Their defense was that smokers assumed the risks of smoking and should bear the responsibility for it. The people were not having much luck in their fight against the tobacco companies.
Along with the people’s fight against the tobacco companies, the states are now helping take action. The number of states suing the industry has climbed to twenty-two. By the states suing in place of the smokers, .....

Date Rape
.... too much or did too many drugs to know what exactly was happening. Many people will say that when alcohol is in their system, it disables your vision, allowing other people to become more appealing to the eye. This could be one of the reasons why date rape often occurs on college campuses at fraternity houses or bars. Between a woman’s lowered inhibitions and delayed reactions and a man’s raised confidence, it is often difficult to resist some sexual advances. Sometimes a woman will pass out and wake up with a man having sex on top of her. The woman would not even know that she was being raped if she hadn’t woken up. This also .....
