The Serious Problem Of Acid Rain
.... such as limestone or other known antacids
that can neutralize acids entering the body of water thereby protecting it.
However, large areas of Ontario that are near the Pre-Cambrian Shield, with
quartzite or granite based geology and little top soil, do not posses
enough buffering capacity to neutralize even small amounts of acid falling
on the soil and the lakes. Therefore over time, the basic environment
shifts from an alkaline to a acidic one. This is why many lakes in the
Muskoka, Haliburton, Algonquin, Parry Sound and Manitoulin districts could
lose their fisheries if sulfur emissions are not reduced substantially.

What Is Astrology
.... to draw-up a
horoscope and forecast the "influences" that will affect the soul at that time.
Astrologers usually do not predict actual events in the future. They can only
say what might happen, or could happen, but not what will happen--much like a
weather forecast; although many psychics do make predictions, and astrology is
the tool they use to focus their abilities.
Another common feature of astrology is the comparison of birth charts to
ascertain the compatibility of two people. This is a straightforward method used
by over-laying one chart upon the other. The aspects or angles formed by the
planets are then analyzed to dete .....

The Environment Is Going To Hell
.... at least we're face to face
with the enemies: consumption, population, mindless growth. And we know the
solution: cut back, contract, make do with less. "Live simply so that others may
simply live."
There's just one problem with The Litany, just one slight little wee
imperfection: every item in that dim and dreary recititaion, each and every last
claim, is false. Incorrect. At variance with the truth. Not the way it is, folks.

Docking With Mir
.... of four space-worthy shuttles and the world's first and only long-term space
station.
Docking was over with soon, and was followed by the cosmonauts of Mir
greeting the astronauts of Atlantis. Gifts of flowers, candy and fruit were
given by the Americans, who in return, following a Russian tradition, received
gifts of bread and salt. Knowing the importance of the mission, the Russians, as
well as the Americans, forced the good nature of the mission to be seen. After
an exchange in the crew of Mir, Atlantis disengaged the docking clamps, and
returned home.
This mission was important to the future of the conquest of space, .....

Acid Rain
.... will dissolve alkaline rocks and soil, or will neutralize the
alkalinity.
2) Acid rain will increase the acidicy of already acidic rocks and soil,
such as granite, or the soil which results from corroded granite.
Acidic chemicals, and alkaline chemicals react to each other by
reducing the alkalinity or acidicy of each other. Which ever has the
strongest pH level, usually will neutralize or reduce the pH of the other,
but after the reaction is complete, both substances have undoubtably
changed, their pH moved closer to neutral ( pH 7 ). This knowledge led to
the use of Salting.
Salting ( dropping salt, ch .....

Acid Rain: Cause And Effects And Issues
.... plant construction and operation;
d. Whether there is sufficient energy resources readily
available;
e. Whether or not the chemical plant can carry out its
operation without any unacceptable damage to the
environment.
Listed above are the basic deciding factors that govern the location of
a plant. The following will explain in greater detail why these factors
should be considered.
1) Raw Materials The plant needs to be close to the raw materials that are
involved in the production of sulfuric acid such as sulfur, lead,
copper, zinc sulfides, etc..
2) Transportation A .....

Alchemy
.... of the
various metals, that in it their various substances were incorporated.
This black powder was mystically identified with the underworld form of the
god Osiris, and consequently was credited with magical properties. Thus
there grew up in Egypt the belief that magical powers existed in fluxes and
alloys. Probably such a belief existed throughout Europe in connection
with the bronze-working castes of its several races. Its was probably in
the Byzantium of the fourth century, however, that alchemical science
received embryonic form. There is little doubt that Egyptian tradition,
filtering through Alexandrian Hellenic sour .....

Anti-Matter
.... the LEAR
(low energy anti-proton ring) in an attempt to slow the velocity of the
anti-protons to a billionth of their normal speeds. The slowing of the
anti-protons and positrons, which normally travel at a velocity of that
near the speed of light, is neccesary so that they have a chance of meeting
and combining into anti-hydrogen.
The problems with research in the field of anti-matter is that when
the anti-matter elements touch matter elements they annihilate each other.
The total combined mass of both elements are released in a spectacular
blast of energy. Electrons and positrons come together and vanish into
high-energy .....

Revolutionary QM212
.... in to E.
coli. bacteria, the researchers had a large batch of a new compound which
they named QM212. When copper was added to this new batch, it binded with
the metal-ion binding sight, decreasing the fluorescent emissions.
Applications:
The human immune system already uses similar antibodies for similar
tasks. Natural antibodies conform to the shape of foreign bodies and bind
to the outer surface. They then release enzymes to break down the
substance. In the experiment, c opper acted as the foreign body while
QM212 was the antibody.
One application of this process could be used by the military. The

Artificial Life
.... very basic a-life formats called cellular automata (see AUTOMATA,
THEORY OF) in the 1950s. Cellular automata are imaginary mathematical
"cells" --analogous to checkerboard squares--that can be made to simulate
physical processes by subjecting them to certain simple rules called
algorithms (see ALGORITHM). Before his death, von Neumann had developed a
set of algorithms by which a cellular automaton--a box shape with a very
long tail--could "reproduce" itself.
Another important predecessor of a-life research was Dutch biologist
Aristid Lindenmeyer. Interested in the mathematics of plant growth,
Lindenmeyer found in the 1960s tha .....

The Big Bang Model
.... the perfect cosmological
principle. This principle says that the universe is the same everywhere on
the large scale, at all times.2 It maintains the same average density of
matter forever.
There are observational evidences found that can prove the Big Bang
model is more reasonable than the Steady State model. First, the redshifts
of distant galaxies. Redshift is a Doppler effect which states that if a
galaxy is moving away, the spectral line of that galaxy observed will have
a shift to the red end. The faster the galaxy moves, the more shift it has.
If the galaxy is moving closer, the spectral line will show a blue shift .....
