Personal Writing: A Beck Concert
.... It took them forever to make there song a
hit, but now that it's there, all they think is about the past, and how
terrible it was.
Personally, I think that to blame the future on the past is some-
what ridicules. The past is over with, you should respect what you have now,
appreciate it. Take pride and dignity not, disrespect and harm.
To throw a typewriter ( 2) is just so extrodenary stupid, I
don't think I can even relate to the person who did this. The way that is
said "child's play", has absolutely everything to do with this. I don't
even think my 8 year old brother is capable of doing something so stupid!

Bluegrass Music
.... the evenings to dance and socialize.
It was what people back then loved. The people back then probably looked
at bluegrass music in the same manner as I look at alternative music today.
It was just a style of music that they could relate to and express some of
their ideas through.
Bluegrass spread when Appalachians fled to the cities after the war
to find work. These people maintained a link with their former culture
through nostalgic songs of home, mother, and church. Some of the early
stars had charisma as well as a distinctive sound that attracted a more
sophisticated audience who appreciated their uncanny musicianship.

No Thanks, I'll Take Real Music
.... That's the problem with these
groups. Playing with instruments would help a lot! A solid bass line and
a little good guitar never hurt anybody. Don't get me wrong, I think
everyone should be able to choose there own music (yes even country). So
stick to bands that are not just an image but also a sound!
What does the future hold for these mass produced bands? The way I
see it, two months from now they will be off the charts and some producer
will be buying a new Mercedes Benz. If you are like me and can't wait for
it to be over, don't worry, soon they will be reduced to touring in Europe!

The Conspiracy Behind The Beatles
.... quickly. As the word spread, the story also got changed.
Two different stories are best known for Paul's death. The first one as
stated from a webpage dedicated to the conspiracy goes like this:
The story that Paul McCartney was involved in a car accident.
Apparently, he hadn't noticed that the lights had changed. The accident
occurred at 5 a.m. on a Wednesday morning. Paul had died from head wounds.
The crash was so severe that his teeth were knocked out, rendering dental
records useless. This explains why the public did not immediately know
that Paul had died. It was kept a secret for almost four years, permitting

Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" And The 1960s And 70s
.... who had lived in
a major city during the 60's I'm sure the danger would have been more
noticeable. A majority of the drug usage took place in the cities.
Jimi Hendrix is a perfect example of a hard-core hippie. He was a
drug addict as well as a spontaneous musical historian. He did have a long
lasting impact on many people. His death was very controversial. Was his
life wasted on sex, drugs, and rock and roll or did he capture the spirit
by seizing every moment for what it was worth? His music is still very
popular today, but probably not as well understood. Many people consider
his music to be before its time, but th .....

The Drums
.... Lets start with the bass drum.
THE BASS DRUM
The bass drum is obviously the bass or low pitch drum in the set. The bass
drum is set on the floor with the batter of the drum facing vertically so
that a foot pedal may be used to hit the drum. The standard depth of a bass
drum shell is 14" and standard shell diameters range anywhere from 18"-26".
During the history of the drumset various bass sizes have been used for
certain types of music. The most common size bass drums used now are either
16" x 22" or 14" x 22". Smaller bass drums are often used by jazz drummers
to get a more soft and mellow sound, for example 14" x 20" or 1 .....

Music And The Civil War
.... the popularity of "these concerts have always heretofore drawn crowded
houses.2" In the style of other articles, the paper comments that the
"merit of the music will ensure to the concert an abundant success"2
Musical performances in Franklin County were much the same.
Concerts were frequently given for the benefit of the community.
Socialites flocked to events such as the concert dubbed "The Flower
Queen."3 The concert was a combination of vocal and musical entertainment
in which The Valley Spirit reported that "The audience in attendance was
the largest, and most highly respectable, we have ever seen assembled in
the Hall."3

History Of Percussion Instruments
.... any type of drum hit with a stick. Both
of these instruments are tunable in many different ways and forms;
therefore, these instruments can be used as melodic instruments (“
Percussion” 653).
Basic idiophones (also refereed to as concussion instruments) are
struck together. This includes clappers, cymbals, stones, and castanets.
Percussive idiophones are hit by nonsonorous strikers. These types of
instruments include gongs, triangles, and xylophones. Shaken idiophones
were usually cups or shells that contained rattles or pellets, the shaking
of the shells and cups produced a sound. There are many other idiophones
including scr .....

History Of Rock And Roll
.... was more like the gateway from Elvis Presley to Jimi Hendrix.
Known as the Beatles they stole the hearts of millions of teenage girls
with songs such as Michelle and Julia. If you were lucky enough to have
one of those names you were idolized for life.
This new type of Rock and Roll, sometimes referred to as Hippie
Music is probably the most well known because of the unique use of color
and face paint which most of the bands more. Kids wore bell bottoms and
guys had long hair. Once again the parents rejected. The kids loved it.
For three days in August of 1969 on a farm in Woodstock, New York, bands
and thousands of kids g .....

The History Of The Piano
.... enabling the hammer to escape from the string, rather than to
block on it, thereby smothering the vibrations the hammer itself had
originated. By the 1720's Cristofori had made some twenty "gravicembali"
and had added a padded check to catch the hammer on the rebound (Fig. 1)-an
attempt to prevent its bouncing to and for on and off the strings, after
escapement.
In the next century the cheek was to be exploited further, as it came to be
realised that the swift repetition of a note demanded by the more dazzling
pianists, could be achieved if the hammer could be held at a position
midway to the string, so that on repeat it did .....

The Life Of Deadheads And Music Of The Grateful Dead
.... Key: A Dictionary for Deadheads, is “someone who loves
-- and draws meaning from -- the music of the Grateful Dead and the
experience of Dead shows, and builds community with others who feel the
same way” (Shenk 60).
To elaborate on this in more objective terms, research shows the
top four characteristic influences on the life of Deadheads are (in order):
The Dead, Friends, Love, and Family. In this same survey, below the mean
are: Money, Work, and Sex, (Scott 343). From 1965 to 1995 the rock group,
The Grateful Dead, has attracted a group of people known as Deadheads who
follow the band everywhere they go. Large numbers .....
