History Of Rock And Roll
.... first record, "Heartbreak Hotel" was recorded.
It was the first of a consecutive 14 records to sell over one million copies.
He inspired other country singers to sing rock and roll. This started a
trend for "cover" recordings. This was when white singers simplified versions
of Black recorded songs. White singers were played on more radio stations and
became very popular.
Young listeners became their largest audience. Young singers were hired

Origins And History Of The Dulcimer
.... China. However, the yang ch'in was introduced to the
Chinese around 1800. A similar traditional dulcimer found its way to Korea in
about 1725. The dulcimer originated as the santir in what is now Iraq from a
Greek instrument, the psalterion. The santir was a trapeziodal box covered with
strings. It was played by striking the strings with light sticks. From there
the Arabs carried the santir through North Africa where it was integrated into
the Jewish culture. From North Africa it was taken to Spain, for a carving was
discovered in the cathedral Santiago de Compostela, dated 1184. It is unknown
why the Irish make mention .....

How To Listen To Music, Not Just Hear It
.... and woofers give you their undivided
attention.
Where to sit is simple, but it takes some easy calculations to find the
perfect spot. There is a common rule for a person to experience the full effect
of the music. In order to do this, measure the distance between the two speaker
cabinets. If the speaker's cabinets are placed twelve feet apart from each
other, divide twelve feet in half, which gives us six feet. That's the middle,
so mark that location. From that mark, measure twelve feet back, and mark that
spot on the floor. You have found the perfect spot for you to achieve the best
sound from your music.

Paul Simon: I Am A Rock
.... causes pain, It's laughter and loving I disdain." He
said that he doesn't want friendship because it just causes pain, and that the
laughter and loving he hates or despises. He wants to be left alone, like it
says in the third stanza, "Hiding in my room, Safe within my tomb."
He wanted to be shielded from society. In the first line of the third
stanza, he says "I have my books and my poetry to protect me, I am shielded in
my armour" He used the books as a type of shield, to shield him from outside
things that can hurt him. All he needs are his books to keep him occupied away
from society, and isolated. Just like in th .....

Industrial Music
.... Nine Inch
Nails was announced MTV's band of the year. This was a great honor because MTV
spends most of it's time with rap and hip-hop. When NIN's first album came out
in 1989, it was mostly rock and roll with a techno twist, containing songs full
of depressing, suicidal lyrics. Then as the next two albums arose, Trent
became more evil with his music, using machines and pretty much anything he
could find that would make his music sound angered and irritated. This hard,
twisted music, backed up by words of pure hatred started the industrial ball
rolling.
One band that has tried to lighten up industrial just a tad is KMFDM, a

Instrumental History Of The Drums
.... This drum is played with sofft
felt covered sticks and it produces a huskier sound. While it is occasionally
used in the orchestra this type of drum is found more frequently in military
marching bands.
The largest drum in the percussion family is the bass drum. The bass drum of the
classical era, though not equiped with snares, was infact a very deep snare drum
that was set up in a horizontal position to be played. This instrument was
eventually replaced by the bass drum that is now familiar-- a large and shallow
instrument with skins on either of its two sides. It is played in rock bands
with a foot petal, that when pressed down, .....

Jazz And Classical Music
.... European because most of the major composers up
till the 20th century were European. Vivaldi was Italian, Bach was German,
Mozart and Beethoven were Austrian; they are some of the more prominent
composers. Not until the twentieth century with Gershwin and a few others do we
find American composers writing this kind of art music. For the sake of
convention, we can refer to Western Art Music as Classical music.
Jazz is a distinctively American form of music, and it's history occupies a much
smaller span of time. Its origins are found in the early 1900s as some dance
band leaders in the southern U.S. began playing music that combin .....

Jerry Garcia And The Grateful Dead
.... Tiff - who years earlier had
accidentally chopped off Jerry's right-hand middle finger while the two were
chopping wood - introduced him to early rock & roll and rhythm & blues music.
Garcia was quickly drawn to the music's funky rhythms and wild textures, but
what attracted him the most were the sounds that came from the guitar;
especially the bluesy "melifluousness" of players such as; T-bone Walker and
Chuck Berry. It was something he said that he had never heard before. Garcia
wanted to learn how to make those same sounds he went straight to his mother
and told her that he wanted an electric guitar for his next birthday.

Life's Too Short
.... listening to. This is his first success ingredient, getting the
attention of his audience so that they will listen to his message. His message
is of course the best thing about the song. It explains to kids to "stop just
hangin out, set your self some goals, think positive, and keep hustling".
Too Short has got to the financial level he's at, by following the keys
that he describes in his song, not by following the stereotypes that parent's
turn off of the TV. Acting ghetto, for appeal, and rapping with a sweet rythym
tongue was only the bare minimum of what he needed to rise to the top of the
rapping industry. Studi .....

.... School where he started playing in the
auditorium on the stage with friends. Three years later his mother died of
cancer. There was a song written in memory of her memory titled "The God that
Failed." Then he moved to L.A. where he met the band. Lars knew Kirk but he
already had enough guitars in the band. Eventually Dave Mustain was kicked out
of the band because he disagreed with everyone. McGovney followed with him.
Kirk was already playing with a band called Exodus but quit to join Metallica.
And the band acquired bassist Cliff Burton to join.
Cliff was in the group when they made their oldest album called Kill em' .....

Modern Music Composition
.... is changing every day, has
opened up new and more innovative doors. Included with the advanced
technology that has brought music to life, there has also been a steady increase
of musicians. This is in direct proportion with the growing number of music
educators.
Music, by means of instruments, has been played for thousands of years. Music
composition involves three major key-points. These key-points are direction,
general-knowledge, and general-insight. Through the course of this essay, you
will learn what each of these three points is and the prevalent pre-requisitions
required of persons to have these three abilitie .....

Music Censorship
.... victims because of their social unacceptable actions or
the content of their music and lyrics. While censorship is slightly more
realistic and open-minded (no more censoring performers from the waist down,
like Elvis Presley on the Ed Sullivan show), it still affects listeners and
their choice of music quite significantly. Although the government, music
associations, and other various groups try censorship, the music a person
chooses is still, and always should be, his choice.
Some children are too young for the exposure to certain types of music. Albums
containing sexually explicit lyrics depicting sexualacts in great detail ar .....
