Microsoft Corporation
.... from the earth's raw materials dramatically changed the world of
business and trade. With the subsequent invention of wire communications (i.e.,
tapping out Morse code and speaking over telephone lines), business and trade
grew exponentially. Wireless communications via the inventions of radio,
television, and motion pictures contributed greatly to the advances of the
Industrial Revolution. The need to find better ways of doing business to keep
the marketplace fresh and innovative has driven the human race toward the brink
of a new eraCthe Information Age. Unlike more tangible qualities of prior ages,
the Information Age .....

Computers
.... in our
leisure time. Like any cataloging system, references make it easy to find what
user seeks. Since its inception, The Internet has been refining its search
tools. Being able to find products through many catalogues is what make the
Internet shine in information retrieval. This helps the consumer find
merchandise that they might other wise probably cannot find. The World Wide Web
allows users to find information on goods and services, pictures of products,
samples of music (Used by record Companies), short videos showing the product or
service, and samples of programs. Although a consumer cannot order directly from

Modems
.... being sold today, 56Kbps is a significant
improvement over 28.8Kbps modems. Viewing complex graphics or downloading sound
files improves significantly with 56Kbps. The modem experts keep telling us that
we are about maxed out. For instance when the 28.8 modems where first introduced
they said that we've reached our maximum speed, and the same thing was said
about the 33.6 and now again for the 56K, but how true is this? The experts say
that the next major improvement will have to come from the telephone companies,
when they start laying down fibber-optic cables so we can have integrated
services digital network (ISDN) . The thing .....

Morality And Ethics And Computers
.... a technician trusted
what he thought a computer was telling him, and administered a deadly dose of
radiation to a hospital patient.2 In cases like these, it is difficult to decide
who's fault it is. It could have been the computer programmer's fault, but
Goodman asks, "How much responsibility can you place on a machine?"3
Many problems also occur when computers are used in education. Should
computers replace actual teachers in the classroom? In some schools, computers
and computer manuals have already started to replace teachers. I would consider
this an unethical use of computers because computers do not have the abi .....

Computer Multimedia
.... every point in the picture and its description. Paint
programs use this technique. Drawing programs are usually vector mapped
programs and paint programs are usually bit mapped.
Computer sound is handled in two different ways. The sound can be described
digitally and stored as an image (wave format) of the actual sound or it can be
translated in to what is called midi format. This is chiefly for music. In a
piano, for instance, the information for what key to hit, for how long ad at
what intensity is stored and retrieved. This is kind of like the way and old
player piano worked.

Natural Language Processing

"I believe that in about fifty years' time it will be possible to
program computers .... to make them play the imitation game so well that an
average interrogator will not have more than 70 per cent chance of making the
right identification after five minutes of questioning."
But in 1950, the current computer technology was limited. Because of
these limitations, NLP programs of that day focused on exploiting the strengths
the computers did have. For example, a program called SYNTHEX tried to determine
the meaning of sentences by looking up each word in its encyclopedia. Another
early approach was Noam Chomsky's at MI .....

NetWare SALVAGE Utility
.... is a great way
to make sure that a file you don't want others to see is completely removed from
the system!!!
For a user or administrator to retrieve a file using SALVAGE, the create right
(right to edit and read a directory area or file) must be assigned to the
directory in which the file resides. If the directory still exists, the files
are put back into the directory from which they were deleted. If the file being
salvaged has the same name as a file that already exists, then a prompt will be
presented to rename the file being salvaged. Since NetWare keeps track of the
files by date and time several versions of the file may .....

Organic Molecules Challenge
.... so named because it uses molecules to act as the
"wires" and "switches" of computer chips. Wires, may someday be replaced by
polymers that conduct electricity, such as polyacetylene and
polyphenylenesulfide. Another candidate might be organometallic compounds such
as porphyrins and phthalocyanines which also conduct electricity. When
crystallized, these flat molecules stack like pancakes, and metal ions in their
centers line up with one another to form a one-dimensional wire.
Many organic molecules can exist in two distinct stable states that differ in
some measurable property and are interconvertable. These could be switches of .....

Computers: Nonverbal Communications
.... Having been created in their most rudimentary
form nearly two decades ago, the technology that supports MUD interaction is
well developed and has spawned a new variety of communicative environment, one
that thousands if not millions of users have found fiercely compelling.
Since MUDs are generally restricted to text-based interaction (some support ANSI
codes, and the graphical MUDs are gaining popularity), one might expect that the
interactions therein are characterized by a lack of regulating feedback,
dramaturgical weakness, few status cues, and social anonymity, as Kiesler and
her colleagues have suggested (Kiesler, Siegal, & .....

Now Is The Time To Be Computer Literate
.... Imagine driving
home from work and calling your computer and having it start dinner for you.
Have it adjust the temperature so your home will be a comfortable temperature
when you arrive. Window covering will be adjusted to allow the correct amount of
sunlight in. Light fixtures will automatically adjust to the right level of
light in your home.
The way of business conducted be entirely changed. Instead of long
distance business trips, business will be conducted via interactive tele-
conferences. Documents and files will be stored on computers hard drives. Much
of this is done today but in the future it will expand as we .....

Optical Storage Mediums
.... creating
friction, which leads to wear, so the life of an average optical disk is far
longer than that of a magnetic medium. Also, it is impossible to ÒcrashÓ an
optical disk (in the same sense as crashing a hard drive), since there is a
protective layer covering the data areas, and that the ÒheadÓ of the drive can
be quite far away from the disk surface (a few millimeters compared to
micrometers for a hard drive). If this medium is so superior, then why is it
not standard equipment? It is. Most of the new computers have a CD-ROM drive
that comes with it. Also, it is only recently that prices have come low enough
to actually m .....

Outsourcing
.... from an external
contractor/company to supply their services the organisation lacks. In addition,
the business competition has set the pace for an organisation to continue to
strive for internal efficiency. It also needs to look for a way to transfer non-
core activities or "in house" services and support activities to external
specialist organisations who can deliver quality services at a lower cost.
Fundamentals
In deciding whether to use outsourcing or not, the main objective of outsourcing
is based on the price of delivery of services by an external contractor/company.
Although price of delivery is a primary factor for .....
