Killer Bees
.... the basic African honeybee traits remain, including rapid population growth, frequent swarming, minimal hoarding of honey, the ability to survive on sparse supplies of pollen and nectar, and a highly defensive nature.
Africanized honeybees are more difficult to manage than European honeybees and produce less honey. The businesses of many beekeepers in Latin American countries have failed as a result of Africanization of the native hives. Africanized honey bees are not expected to have the same impact in the United States because of advanced beekeeping technology and climatic limitations on the spread of the species. Africanizati .....

Barium
.... as a rat poison, while barium nitrate and barium chlorate give colors in pyrotechny. The impure sulfide of barium radiantly glows after exposure to the light. Barium metal has few practical applications, although it is sometimes used in coating electrical conductors in electronic apparatus and in automobile ignition systems. Barium sulfate (BaSO4) is used as a filler for rubber products, in paint, and in linoleum. Barium nitrate is used in fireworks. A form of barium sulfate, which is opaque to X rays, is used for the X-ray examination of the gastrointestinal tract.
Naturally occurring barium is a mixture of seven stable isoto .....

Global Warming
.... dioxide and other greenhouse gases continue to spill into the atmosphere, global temperatures could rise five to 10 degrees by the middle of the next century.
The warning will be the greatest at the higher latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, with the largest temperature rises occurring in winter. Most areas will experience summertime highs well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. New temperature records will be set each year.
As a possible prelude to global warming, the decade of the 1980's has had the six hottest years of the century (Erandson 18-22). Atmospheric disturbances brought on by the additional warming will produ .....

Observed Distribution Of South American Relief Features
.... is applied. Presently, there are more than fourteen plates in the Earth’s crust. Upwelling hot magma flows out from mid-ocean ridges and then cools down when exposed to the cooled environment outside; the layer of cooled magma forms the lithosphere. When magma flows out from the ridges, the crust is fractured and a new ocean floor is built spreading perpendicularly away from the ridge. Because of this constant upwelling, the ocean is relatively shallow in these areas. Sea floor spreading and continental drift are the products of this continual upwelling as you can see in the relief maps of South America.
The cooled magma will, .....

Titanium
.... the cubic beta form very slowly at around 880 degrees Celsius. The metal combines with oxygen at red heat, and with chorine at 550 degrees Celsius. Titanium when a metal, is considered to be physiologically inert. Pure titanium dioxide is kind of clear and has an extremely high index of refraction with an optical dispersion higher then diamond.
The location of titanium on the Periodic Chart is in the series of sub groups called transition elements. Other then the fact that transition elements are metals, there is not a single property that all transition metals have in common.
Some of the prier and current uses for titanium a .....

El Nino
.... elsewhere. Due to a lack of data during El Nino occurrences it is not fully known if fish populations are depleted solely due to exposure to El Nino. A decrease in their growth and reproductive success has been observed by many surveys in coastal waters.
The link between climatic effects around the world and El Nino is now well established. It has taken many years of studying to understand how the pieces of the puzzle, from ocean currents to winds and heavy rains fit together. During the 1920s a scientist was on assignment in India trying to predict the Asian monsoons. As he sorted through his records he discovered a c .....

Cellular Respiration
.... A molecules. These molecules are processed in a complex pathway called the Krebs cycle. As the Krebs cycle progresses through both pyruvic acid molecules, six molecules of NADH, two molecules of ATP, and additional carbon dioxide are all formed. FAD picks up a hydrogen atom from each pyruvic acid molecule, and a total of 2 FAD2 are formed. NADH and FAD2 transport their hydrogen atoms and electrons to the electron transport chain. The electrons are passed down the chain of attracting molecules until they reach oxygen. Joined with hydrogen, they combine with the oxygen to form water. As the electrons flow down the electron cha .....

Pollution From Livestock And Manure
.... of handling of manure is to build a
six month pit or harvester. That means that you can hold your livestock manure and all the runoff
that is run into it for six months or more. To build a pit you must have a overview map that
shows;
"1. Farm buildings, yards surrounding area, homes, other
buildings, lakes, ponds, streams, roads, and other prominent
landmarks, with in about one-half mile, should be shown and
feet from pit.
2. Exact location of wells.
3. Exact location of manure storage facility.
4. General topography with contours dranage pattern .....

Types Of Land Features
.... voles, and mice are very common in the deciduous forests. Amphibians are just as common such as frogs, toads, and salamanders.
Threats to this biome are happening more frequently. Acid rain and air pollution is threatening plants and animals. Deer population has become a bigger threat over the last decade. Because the deer have not enough predators to the area, their size is over growing. Tree bark is being striped from the tree and wild flowers are being eaten in large quantities. Due to the hunting seasons and hunting being illegal in parks it is harder for man to lower the population of the deer. Logging is also beco .....

Satellites
.... countries that they were considering launching small satellite vehicles for space exploration. In April and again in July 1955 the USSR and the U.S. announced plans to launch satellites for the IGY. The USSR launched SPUTNIK 1 on Oct. 4, 1957, and the United States launched EXPLORER 1 on Jan. 31, 1958. These two satellites provided a lot of information for further work on satellites.
Emphasis was first placed on satellites to measure the characteristics of the new space environment and for the design of communications, weather, and navigation satellites and eventually for manned space flight. Experimental satellites for all .....

Air Pollution
.... of complex hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and other compounds. When acted upon by sunlight, these substances undergo a change in composition producing the brown, photochemical smog for which Los Angeles is well known. Efforts to reduce pollution from automobile engines and to develop pollution-free engines may eventually eliminate the more serious air pollution problems. In the meantime, however, air pollution has driven many forms of agriculture from the Los Angeles basin, has had a serious effect upon the pine forests in nearby mountains, and has caused respiratory distress, particularly in children, elderly people, and those suf .....

Water And Its Importance
.... help to sustain life and keep it constantly evolving. In the next couple of pages, we are going to go into detail of how it does this.
Water consists of two hydrogen atoms that are joined to one oxygen atom by covalent bonds. These bonds are polar bonds. The partial charges on different parts of water molecules produce weak attractive forces called hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds are formed between the hydrogen of one water molecule and the oxygen of other molecules. Due to hydrogen bonding, water molecules will stick together. In a liquid form, hydrogen bonds of water are very weak and then reform constantly. This cau .....
