The Quest To Understand The Origins Of Humans
.... try to
hide under the mask called god, but by doing that they do not solve them,
they only ignore and try to escape their everyday problems, which makes
everything worse. The desperate attempt to explain their own existence took
people to the creation of many various myths, which also incorporated in
them many different aspect of the culture and everyday life of their
creators. This connection between people and the myths is actually
illustrated on the three creation stories Genesis, Buddha and Zeus
mythology.
One of the best examples to illustrate this is to take a look at the
creation myths of the ancient Greece about the Ol .....

Is Psychology A Science?
.... the mid-19th century, scholars (although at that time probably
termed philosophers) wanted to study human nature with the aim of applying
the scientific method to observe, record, and treat human behavior that was
deemed as unnatural. They believed that if people could be studied in a
scientific manner, there would be a greater accuracy in understanding
present behavior, in predicting future behavior, and, most controversially,
in altering behavior through scientific intervention.
There are many areas of psychology, each attempting to explain behavior
from slightly different perspectives;
Social psychology is concerned w .....

All You Need To Know About AIDS
.... over twenty percent of the adults currently carry the virus. That
figure is increasing. And what occurred there will, if no cure is found,
most likely occur here among heteroosexual folks.
AIDS was first seen as a dise.ase of gay males in this
country. This was a result of the fact that gay males in this culture
in the days before AIDS had an average of 200 to 400 new sexual contacts
per year. This figure was much higher than common practice among
heterosexual (straight) men or women. In addition, it turned out that
rectal sex was a particularly effective way to transmit the disease,

No One Can Prepare Themselves For A Sudden Death
.... it
happens, and why it happens. These questions are part of a young child's
grieving process.
The questions of whether a young child should be allowed to attend
the funeral and what he should or shouldn't see- has seen much debate.
Generally attending funeral is okay. However a child under seven should not
see the deceased. Instead of providing closure this will often traumatize
a child resulting in nigh mares and unresolved fears. There is no way to
put a length limit on the grieving process. If a child was very close to
the person that died, the grieving process will usually take longer. If a
child is still greatly consumed .....

Hypnosis
.... they manifest objectively, are the product of their
motivational set; that is, behavior reflects what is being sought from the
experience.
Most people can be easily hypnotized. The depth of trance, however, will
vary from a light state close to waking, to a profound state of
somnambulism. A profound trance is characterized by a forgetting of trance
events and by an ability to respond automatically to posthypnotic
suggestions that are not too anxiety-provoking. The depth of trance
achievable is a relatively fixed characteristic, dependent on the emotional
condition of the subject and on the skill of the hypnotist. Only 20 percent

Alternative Medicine
.... sources there are for help when I am ill.
Alternative medicine twenty years ago was an obscure term. Only 5
to 10 years ago, most physicians would have dismissed alternative medicine
as a fad that was perhaps a remnant of the 60's pop culture. An article in
American Family Physician, stated that a survey in 1990 which was reported
in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1993 revealed that 34% of
American s were using at least one type of alternative treatment. Patients
spent 13.7 billion dollars on alternative medicine, 10.3 billion of it came
out of the patients own pocket. Since then alternative medicine's
popularity ha .....

Alcoholism
.... sorts or a
way to soothe feelings of anxiety, anger, or depression," says Daniel
Goleman in his book, Emotional Intelligence.
Many clubs and organizations around the country including S.A.D.D.
(Students Against Driving Drunk) and M.A.D.D.(Mothers Against Drunk
Driving) make the public aware of alcoholism through community events and
general public information.
Adults are not the only group of people effected by this problem.
Many teenagers are also effected by alcoholism. Those who are caught are
usually sent to rehabilitation centers to receive help. Hopefully enough
these teens have been caught in the early stages, and can be .....

The Dangers Of Smoking Marijuana
.... piece of paper that is twisted at the ends. A blunt is normally an
emptied cigar wrapper filled with marijuana. In a blunt you can fit much
more marijuana. Though a blunt isn't always purely marijuana, it can be
mixed with other drugs such as angel dust.
The results are varied when someone smokes marijuana. Different
people will get different results, and certain types of cannabis can cause
different effects. The amount of THC (marijuana's main active chemical)
may also change the result. If alcohol or other drug use is occurring
while smoking marijuana, the effect could be different. A first time
marijuana smo .....

A Better Idea Of Attention Deficit Disorder
.... affects two important parts
of the brain that are connected with the ability to pay attention and the
ability to regulate motor activity (Phelan 46). Many people believe that
bad parenting, physical brain damage, diet, and allergies cause ADD. Thomas
Phelan argues that these things indeed do not cause ADD. People also
believe that ADD can be hereditary. Better than one third of the parents of
an ADD child had ADD when they were children (Phelan 43-44; 47).
Patients usually have to take several tests in order to be properly
diagnosed with ADD. These tests include intelligence, achievement, and fine
motor tests (Morrison 11 .....

Plants, Spirits, And Healing

medicine man usually wears the mask to inspire fear and belief. Australian
Aboriginal groups have initiation rites, that can involve pulling teeth,
bloodletting, or burning and scaring of the body. Then, ointments and
balms made from herbs and other substances would be applied after the
ceremony.
The shaman have different uses for different kinds of plants. The
squawroot also know as the multipurpose plant is a traditional remedy in
some North American Tribes. It eases nerve and muscle pain, arthritis,

Dealing With Death
.... and I'm not saying it's the best way to deal with death just the
way I dealt with it.
No matter how you deal with death you must learn to live with the
fact that someone you know is now no longer around. You must go on with
your life and learn how to have fun with that person around anymore. Some
people may take longer to get past the shock of the persons death, but
they will have to go on with there lives sooner or later. I think the best
thing to do is to keep yourself busy and do new things so you don't get
stuck in a rut. Finally, people may die that you know, but you must
remember that there are still people alive t .....

Acupuncture
.... The needles are typically
turned clockwise or counterclockwise to evoke patient response and to
intensify or change the needles tip polarity. Manual or electrical
manipulation of the needle or the application of heat or cold to the handle
will change polarity and direction of the current (Kanigel 3).
One common question about acupuncture is if this practice is
legimate. According to one recent research, a panel of experts assembled by
the national Institutes of Health concluded that acupuncture works.
Specifically, the group declared that acupuncture effectively quells
chemotherapy. Although much of the research is flawed or .....
