The Tell Tale Heart: The Labovian Theory
.... the depravity of reason.
The "The Tell-Tale Heart" is, at a glance, seemingly about a man
plotting to kill another man in cold blood. Looking further into the words,
the reader can find a story of a man obsessed with senses and the ability
to have complete control over them. The narrator uses reason to overwhelm
the morality of his actions. His obsession takes over his whole being,
thus bringing on the madness which over powers his world. The focus of
the abstract is first seen as the narrator describes his idea as,
"haunting him day and night"(226). Only an obsessed person could let
something get to the point where the .....

The Growth Of Coarse Language
.... this means
that the child has learned 9 new words every day science he or she started
to talk. This rapid increase of learning to speak does not slow down after
this period of time, as a matter of fact it keeps increasing even more as
the child learns to read. by the time they are 17 they would have a 800000
reading word vocabulary and that means he or she has acquired an average of
13 words a day.
Now you say what does this have to do with anything, Well I will
tell you--- all these figures are from 1992 and now in 1996 the figures
have dropped by around 13 precent in all areas, and now new studies show
that children know .....

Life
.... Some chapters are blurred, because not even the author knows what
happened, or what he wishes would happen. And some chapters are blank pages,
waiting to be filled. More than once, the author has wished he could go
back a few pages and rewrite it differently, but alas, the book has already
been published, and cannot be changed.
As the book ages, it loses some of its shine, pages tear and fade,
and the binding becomes loose. Some pages suddenly become so clear, you
can't understand why you didn't see it before, while others become so
transparent that you can't even remember reading them. And after the book
has become so ol .....

Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates
.... actions. There does not seem
to be any plan or order to these events, just everything that happens.
Everything. Life is a long process with good, bad and indifferent points.
According to the World Book Encyclopedia, a box is "a container,
usually with four stiff sides, a bottom, and a lid to pack or put things
in," and chocolate is "a substance made by roasting and grinding cacao
seeds." A box of chocolates would logically be a container which holds
cacao products. A scientific dissection of a box of chocolates would show
a box (usually rectangular or heart shaped) filled with anywhere from one
to dozens of small, in .....

The Analysis Of Several Works Of Joyce Maynard: Life's Not Over Yet
.... the characters in a
positive way, because she made the people she influenced always want to do
the best in life, as the people seemed to really care about and want her
approval.
The second chosen story, God is Not a Fish Inspector by W.D.
Valgardson was my personal favorite, the main character was Fusi, a man who
himself knew he was getting old, but that didn't mean he had to accept it,
as Fusi was a n old man with attitude, an attitude determined to not let
himself down or life. “God will punish you.” She promised in a low,
intense voice. Emma, Fusi daughter was saying this to Fusi concerning him
going fishing alone early in .....

Living In The Present Causes More Harm Than Good
.... are the most precious things on this earth, it is very
important for each to find his true love and friends, and live his life
with them to its fullest potential.
The past is just that, the past. There is nothing you can do about
it except learn from it. In the last year I have spent countless hours
contemplating what I could have done different to change the events that
took place last October. The death of Jen Elliott, my friend, was the
hardest thing I have ever experience in my short life. I would have given
anything and everything to go back and change those events, and I still
would. However, I have learned that ther .....

Analysis Of The Works Of Herman Melville And Nathaniel Hawthorne
.... impact on
Moby-Dick was the correspondence between the two writers. Hawthorne's
influence proved to be a factor in Melville's decision to write a novel
exploring the "meaning of life." The experiences of both writers helped
them realize that individuals have to figure out their purpose in life for
themselves and that individuality is implicit for a meaningful and
successful one.
Hawthorne wrote in The Scarlet Letter of a tragic "phase of
humanity," the idea that reality must not be ignored but rather accepted in
order to pursue happiness. Hester was a woman who acted on her own, not
following the crowd and Melville ca .....

Methods Of Control
.... from the youth.
When one gets his or her license, they will want more freedom. That
means staying out longer. Now curfew is 11:00 p.m., but most want to stay
out past that. There's always a party to go to, and the youth want to stay
out with their friends and have a good time. Good times can lead to tragedy.
Drinking, drugs, sex, and violence make curfew a good thing. During the day
most teens are at school, but at night lots of teens gets together to party.
So making your stat home is good if parents want to try and keep there kids
out of trouble. Most all of these bad things can occur by setting a time
when they must come ho .....

to do it. Others have went over sea's or to Mexico to make their goods. Why
, because there they can hire people at a cheaper rate.
As we can all see, without money , we're nowhere. People can do

Montaigne's "On Some Lines Of Virgil"
.... it of certain
pleasures) to perfect their souls. Their bodies, he says, could have had
little to do with this; it was more their bodies following behind their
souls (page 323.)
In Montaigne's eyes, it is unjust to prejudice the soul toward
bodily pleasures in this manner. These pleasures are natural and should
therefore be enjoyed in moderation, not completely avoided. Resistance,
instead, should be employed against unnatural pleasures (page 322.)
Since sex is a natural pleasure, it fits into the category of
things to be enjoyed in moderation. Montaigne makes a point of including
an age limit on those like himself that wis .....

Nathaniel Hawthorne Weaves Dreams Into Reality In Much Of His 19th Century Prose
.... expands his observations of mankind with keen insight.
Truth often finds its way to the mind close-muffled
in robes of sleep, and then speaks with uncompromising
directness of matters in regard to which we practice
an unconscious self-deception, during our waking
moments. (par.15)
The prophetic statement was made by Hawthorne to open the reader's mind and
perhaps inject an introspective glimpse of his perspective that dreams do
indeed contain precursors or warnings of future conscious realities. He
also contends that people often purposely di .....
