Alice Munro's "Boys And Girls"
.... coming to terms with the role in life
that she was expected to lead. She wanted to work outside with her father
doing the work that she deemed important. The mother tried to get the
narrator to work inside doing work deemed appropriate for a lady, however
it was not something she enjoyed. "I hated the hot dark kitchen in the
summer" (p. 530). The narrator was not considered of any consequential
help to her father, simply because she was female.
"Could of fooled me," said the salesman. "I thought it was only a
girl" (p. 529). Even though the narrator could do more work than her
younger brother, she was still under a .....

"Braces Suck!"
.... Braces are three to four years of physical torture beginning with
the very first office visit. The applying of the brackets itself is long,
tiresome, and uncomfortable. First, cold, flavored clay is shoved into the
inside of the mouth, forming a mold as it dries. Jagged metal squares
(brackets) are glued to the tooth, forcing hot, burning, glue to drip down
the gums. Braces also cause everyday aches and pains in the mouth. Metal
wires, guiding teeth to a new shape, stab the inside of the mouth causing
cuts and sores while tearing the linings of the mouth each time a person's
mouth opens. Rubber bands that are strung across ea .....

Brave New World: Comparing Life In The World State With Life In The US Today
.... pregnant because nobody is born, everyone is a "test-tube" baby.
Many females are born sterile.
The ideas and ways of obtaining happiness are not too much
different in the brave new world than in our lives here in the United
States. The only difference is that these pleasures are looked at in
different ways. Sex is a very large part of our society's pleasure and
everyone is allowed to have any partner that he/she wants, but this idea is
not taught at a young age and everyone in our society does not feel this
way towards sex. Our ideas and thoughts on topics of this nature are much
more broad, and everyone is entitled .....

The British Renaissance Produced Many Types Of Literature And Was Influenced
.... to win the girl's heart. Notice the word ‘
hopes.'
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my love.
And so the last two lines of the poem end. Putting these lines at the very
end of the poem emphasizes the unsure gestures of the Shepherd. His age
also brings up another very interesting view of Marlowe's. In the poem,
Marlowe expresses the idea that age has no influence upon love and a
person's feelings. The shallow rivers, waterfalls, birds singing, and
flowers all personify the Shepherd's feeling that age has nothing to do
with love and his hopes of winning the younger .....

The Theme Of Isolation In Various Literature
.... the Eskimo saying, "the wolf keeps the caribou strong." Mowat
observed strong family ties among wolves and he finished his long
assignment by having great compassion for them. And he concluded with the
realization that the wolf in fact is very different from the wolf of a
legend.
When the book was published there was no more than 1200 wolves
existing. Compare this to the 2000 the year before. I hope there is still
time to prevent another human error against nature. "the elimination from
this planet of a fellow creature which has at least an equal right to life"
{2} I think people need to look at how we coincide wit .....

Carpe Diem: The Golden Chance
.... Spain is a country not very
rich, and for a person like my it would be not very intelligent to reject
this great chance. Here I am trying to learn as much as possible about
American life style, culture, language and people. My chance was supposed
to expire in one year but now I have the opportunity to not only finish
high school in United States, but also continue my college years here.
My Carpe Diem tells me that I can not waste my time, because I have
already lost too much precious time in my life. I have to be resolute to
succeed, to give my best, to enjoy my education and the teachers that are
here to help me, and to give my .....

Cause And Effect Of Speeding
.... continues. Usually the traffic school is no where near to
the courthouse, which causes you to search to find the it. The great
experience of paying is close at hand after locating the school. You must
endure the nine hour course after paying for the privilege of attending.
This is a class most people would have never taken if given the chance. The
unpleasantness associated with a speeding ticket is almost finished when
you have completed the course.
A reoccurring reminder of a previous mistake is evident in higher insurance
rates. Most insurance companies feel that speeding tickets make someone a
higher risk. So, to of .....

What Is Wealth
.... taking
things for granted. In many ways knowledge can help you achieve success.
With knowledge one can look into the past and see the mistakes that others
have made. The person with knowledge will not repeat these mistakes.
Knowledge can help one make the right choices in life. If one can make the
right choices in life and live a good life then they can truly have wealth.
Wealth is not the ability to take everything for granted. Wealth
is not greed and malice towards others. People sometimes put so much
stress on wealth. What I believe is that if one should spend their life
gaining wealth than what truly was the purpose .....

Image Of Child Heros
.... story a young man named David proposes to the king of Israel that
he fight and attempt to kill Goliath, the giant that had been plaguing
Israel. The king agrees, however hesitantly, and David goes on to slay the
beast using just a slingshot. While this story is not one that was
made up, it still shows us that the ancient Hebrews believed in the fact
that a child, or in this case teen, has the will and motivation to do
the impossible.
Staying on the eastern side of the world, we will next see examples
of Russian stories. In the former Soviet Union, a lot of the time stories,
books and other types of art were hard .....

How Does Coleridge In 'The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner' And 'Kubla Khan'
.... to the
creation of rituals and rules by the human-being and the obeying of the
cycle of life to death, again and again. The running theme of freedom and
release for man is emphasised in both poems, escaping from criticism, in
the case of KK, and from blame and regret, in RAM. They both explore the
tendency to be impulsive for reasons accumulated through the traits of
human and social instinct, in contrast to that obtained naturally. An
example of this purely natural expression is that of the senses. KK is an
extremely sensual and sexual poem, appealing to maybe the animalistic part
of the human rather than to the section which re .....

The Theme Of Coming Of Age In Literature
.... of age is an event which is often celebrated in many different
cultures, through rituals or ceremonies. The rituals, also known as
passage rites, mark the passing of a person from one stage of life to the
next: birth, infancy, childhood, adulthood, old age, and death. The coming
of age is celebrated along with birth, and death because it is known as a
universal life crises. Evoking anxiety, these crises often elicit passage
rites. Arnold Van Gennep stated that "Passage rituals have three steps:
separation from society; inculcation-transformation; and return to society
in the new status." (1995, Grolier Encyclopedia)
