Telnet
.... casual computer users, although not with the friendly graphic user interfaces
one sees today.
Each of the early internet functions could be invoked from the UNIX
prompt, however, each of them used a different client program with its own
unique problems. Internet software has since greatly matured, with modern web
browsers (i.e. Netscape and Internet Explorer) easily handling the WWW protocol
(http) along with the protocols for FTP, gopher, news, and email. Only the
telnet protocol to this day requires the use of an external program.
Due to problems with printing and saving and the primitive look and
feel of telnet connecti .....

The Anti-Trust Case Against Microsoft
.... Justice moved quickly, with Anne K. Bingaman, head
of the Antitrust Division of the DOJ, leading the way.(Check 1) The case was
finally ended on July 15, 1994, with Microsoft signing a consent
settlement.(Check 1)
The settlement focused on Microsoft's selling practices with computer
manufacturers. Up until now, Microsoft would sell MS-DOS and Microsoft's other
operating systems to original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) at a 60% discount
if that OEM agreed to pay a royalty to Microsoft for every single computer that
they sold (Check 2) regardless if it had a Microsoft operating system installed
on it or not. After the settlemen .....

The Basics Of A Hard Drive
.... computer.
Now there is one more thing you have to know about this computer, the computer
was half the size of West High Schools gym. And it was thought that when it was
ecomoical for people to own there own computer it would fill a decent size room.
Could you imagine a computer filling up your entire living room, where wolud you
put your TV? But with the invetion of keyboards and nanotechnology they reduced
the size of the computer by nearly 200% and every year the keep getting smaller
and smaller and it is estimated that nearly 85 to 90 percent of American homes
have at least one computer in their home.
Now that I have bored you .....

The Central Processing Unit
.... one of the founders of Intel, predicted that the number of
transistor placed on each CPU would double every 18 months or so. This sounds
almost impossible, however this has been a very accutate estimation of the
evolution of CPUs. Intel introduced their first processor, a 4004, in November
of 1971. This first processor had a clock speed of 108 kilohertz and 2,300
transistors. It was used mainly for simple arithmetic manipulation such as in a
calculator. Ever since this first processor was introduced the market has done
nothing but soared to unbelievable highs. The first processor common in
personal computers was the 8088 .....

Technology Changes Role Of Database Administrator
.... data,
once done predominately by large corporations, is now filtering down to medium-
size and small companies. The meshing of the old and new database causes
administrators to maintain two or three database products on a single network.
(Wong 1995)
Relational database management systems incorporate complex features and
components to help with logic procedures. This requires organizations to
expand the traditional approach to database management and administration. The
modern database management systems not only share data, they implement the
sharing of common data elements and code elements. (Mullins 1995)

The Computer
.... to make a computer run like a Hard drive, a Motherboard, and a Video
card. There are many other additions you can make to this such as a Modem, a
Joystick, and a Mouse.
The personal computer was developed during the year 1945 by the Americans to
help them decode enemy secret codes during the Second World War. At this time
the computers were huge and only used by governments because they were as big as
room. This was because the main thing they used were vacuum valves which made
the computer enormous. They also never had anything to hold any memory so they
couldn't actually be classed as a true computer. The introduction of a way t .....

Computers
.... although the term computer is often used to mean only the digital type.
Everything that a digital computer does is based on one operation the ability to
determine if a switch, or gate is open or closed. That is, the computer can
recognize only two states in any of its microscopic circuits on or off, high
voltage or low voltage, or—in the case of numbers—0 or 1. The speed at which the
computer performs this simple act, however, is what makes it a marvel of modern
technology. Computer speeds are measured in megaHertz, or millions of cycles per
second. A computer with a "clock speed" of 10 mHz—a fairly representative speed

The Modem
.... fairly recent and
haven't gone out of date yet. There are two types of modem external and
external modems internal plugs into a 16 bit port inside your computer and
external connects through either a serial (mouse)port or a parallel
(printer)port most people like the external modems because they don't take up an
extra space in your computer (according to PC Computing) prices in modems range
price from $100 (28.8bps) to $500(software upgradable 56k). Facsimile machines
also have a form of modem in them, usually a 2400baud modem to decode the
message. So imagine a world without the modem for a second; NO fax NO Internet

The Dependability Of The Web
.... improvements are continually needed to handle the
burden that's been created from all of the people using the net.
Their are many things that can lighten the load that's been slowing down
the internet. First, it needs to have a lot better organization because with
over seventy-five million web pages, and rising steadily fast, being able to
pin-point the information you are trying to find is very difficult. It's like
finding a needle in a haystack. When you use a search engine to find
information on a certain topic the search can come back with thousands upon
thousands of pages or sites. Sometimes with over fifty-thousand. .....

The Evaluation Of The Microprocessor.
.... the core of it. It
was also found in the Macintosh Plus, the original Macintosh SE, the Apple
Laser-Writer IISC, and the Hewlett-Packard's LaserJet printer family. The
68000 was very efficient for its time for example it could address 16 megabytes
of memory, that is 16 more times the memory than the Intel 8088 which was found
in the IBM PC. Also the 68000 has a linear addressing architecture which was
better than the 8088's segmented memory architecture because it made making
large applications more straightforward.
The 68020 was invented by Motorola in the mid-80's(Encarta 95). The 68020 is
about two times as powerful as the .....

The Evolution Of The PC And Microsoft
.... but that wasn¹t enough. In order to catapult the PC in to a big-time
product, Apple needed to make it marketable to the average Joe. This was made
possible by Visical, the home spread sheet. The Apple II was now a true-blue
product.
In order to compete with Apple¹s success, IBM needed something to set
its product apart from the others. So they developed a process called ³open
architecture.² Open architecture meant buying all the components separately,
piecing them together, and then slapping the IBM name on it. It was quite
effective. Now all IBM needed was software. Enter Bill Gates.
Gates, along with budd .....

The Future Of The Internet
.... different interests,
thoughts, and ideas get involved with the internet, there will be more
information available (Elmer-Dewitt 64). As the number of internet users
increases, the prices will gradually decrease on internet software and
organizations (Peterson 358). The best quality about the size of the internet
is it is so big that it cannot be destroyed (Elmer-Dewitt 62).
There are many problems with the constant growth of the internet. It's
largest weakness is that it is not owned or controlled by anyone (Elmer-Dewitt
63). There is no base plan for the future of the internet (Dunkin 180). As it
grows in size, there is le .....
