If anyone found out, then they would look down on him and he would be shunned like Hester. When the three of them were on the scaffold together and he told God of his sin, he felt better the next day because he got the sin off his chest, but not the letter tho .....

In Cold Blood: Life Goes On
.... clearly states, "Susan never has got over it. Never will, ask me" (60). This fact is clear to the reader when in the last section of the book, Al Dewey finds Susan by the graves and she says, "I’m really happy. . . Nancy and I planned to go to college together. We were going to be roommates. I think about it sometimes. Suddenly, when I’m very happy, I think of all the plans we made" (349). Although she experienced a tragic event, Susan is able to think back on Nancy and find happiness in the thoughts of the times they spent together. The truth is that she never gets over it because Dewey asks about her, but she cannot go on .....

Hester can actually feel the burning on her chest as the people stare at the letter A attached. "It had the effect of a spell, taking her out of the ordinary relations with humanity, and inclosing her in a sphere by herself" (Hawthorne 1185). Immediately we see that Hester is alone because she has set herself free. The townspeople repress her quest for personal freedom, and oust her from the community. .... and wealthy. They all are very charming and elicit. They are in fact horrible people who had hardly any morals. These characters portrayed people who were corrupt and dishonest. They are likeable because they lived a life that most people can only dream of. They may be considered horrible people but they had fun doing it. The characters were not like normal upper-class people instead they lived life in there own style and did things like they wanted to. All of the major characters had there own unique traits that were only common to them.

Marlow also shows his savageness when he is first in Africa when he and his men are carrying a dead man. One of his men expects to see Marlow kill someone, this man sees that Marlow has the potential to kill a man.
Marlow realizes that Kurtz is a savage by his actions and behavior. First Marlow is horrified by the human heads on the poles outside his house.
