simultaneously the same description of the noises come from within the house.
As Usher tries to persuade the narrator that it is his sister coming for him,
and his friend believing Roderick has gone stark raving mad, Madeline comes
bursting in through the door and kills her brother. The narrator flees from the
house, and no sooner does he get away than he turns around and sees a fissure in
the houses masonry envelop the house and then watch the ground swallow up the
remains.

Catcher In The Rye: Holden Goes Through A Fall From His Innocence

Another example of a fall for Holden is when he realizes he can't erase
even half the "fuck you's" in the world. This doesn't sound very important,
but it is symbolic because he realizes that he can not be the catcher in
the rye. His dream of shielding all the innocent children from society's
harsh elements has been ruined by this one statement. Now because of this
realization he comes to the conclusion that he can not shield everybody,
not even half of everybody. An example of Holden trying to be the catcher

Social Deterioration In "The Crucible"

members of the town standing with the devil. A community living in a
puritan society like Salem could easily go into a chaotic state and have a
difficult time dealing with what they consider to be the largest form of
evil.
Salem's hysteria made the community lose faith in the spiritual beliefs
that they were trying to strictly enforce. The church lost many of its
parishioners because the interest of the town was now on Abigail because
people wanted to know who was going to be named next. When the church was
trying to excommunicate John Proctor, there were not enough people at

Of course the other girls aren't totally innocent, but they don't have
much of a choice. If they were to speak out like Mary Williams, the
others would accuse them of witchcraft, just like they did to Mary. In my
eyes the main reasons for the continued accusations were fear for their
own life, and in Abigail a need to have John Proctor love her, and to
serve Parris.
When the girls involved in that madness grow up I believe that most of
them will be normal if somewhat less naive about children than the average

.... in the most dire of circumstances. This book was one of the first war books ever written that was truly funny and satirical. That humor kept it from being a dismal series of events rather than the funny and lively book it is. Yossarian has a different attitude towards people, especially women, than the other soldiers do. The Symbolism In Ethan Frome

This story ends in tragedy for all three and the reader is left with a feeling of remorse for each character.
