Duke Ellington: An American Legacy
.... Duke to become an artist in a time when
blacks weren't given the same rights as everyone else. They went to separate
schools. They were forced to the back of the bus and to use separate bathrooms.
If Duke were to become some one he had much to come over.
One thing that we do know is that Duke was always looking for attention
and dignity. There are even stories of how he would announce from the top of
the stairs in the morning that he was coming down and demand that his parents
applaud(Collier,9). Also when his cousins would come over he would stand on the
front porch as they arrived and make them curtsy in front of him(9). .....

.... Love", "White Room", and "Crossroads".
Towards the end of the ‘60s Cream split up. Eric Clapton joined the
band Blind Faith in '69 and did fairly well with it, but the group broke up
quickly after the release of their only album. It was then that Clapton
launched his solo career. For A few years in the early ‘70s Clapton played with
backup band "Delaney and Bonnie and Friends", and made a few pretty successful
albums, but nothing in comparison to the popularity he had with Cream.
This was the start of a period of time (basically most of the ‘70s) where
Eric Clapton would switch around from backup band to backup band. In .....

Satie, Erik
.... musical. The comical titles that he attached to
his small piano pieces are characteristic of the Bohemian wit in the Paris of
his day. Irony and a deceptively childlike attitude, a dislike for pomposity of
all kinds, and an instinctive secretiveness were hallmarks of both the man and
his music. In 1916, Satie was befriended by Jean Cocteau and wrote the music
for a ballet, Parade, on which Pablo Picasso and Leonid Massine also
collaborated. By far the most important of Satie's works is Socrate , an harsh
setting for four sopranos and chamber orchestra of Plato's account of the death
of Socrates. The young composers who forme .....

mass hysteria. Two days later, more than 73 million people watched them perform
live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Four weeks later, The Beatles held the top five

Charles Darwin
.... and the church that were at the heart of Darwin's contribution to
biological science.
Charles Darwin did not invent the concept of evolution. A number of prominent
scientists and other thinkers during the eighteenth century and the first half
of the nineteenth century (among them Charles Darwin's grandfather, Erasmus
Darwin) had offered detailed theories of evolution (Clark, 1984, pg.24-25).
Therefor the idea of evolution went very far back in Western history.
At that time this concept was referred to as The Great Chain Of Life and was
conceived in the middle ages, based on a mixture of classical and Biblical ideas.

Kurt Cobain: Collection Of Personal Accounts From Family Relatives
.... just looked
at me with those piercing eyes and huge grin. He said, "Oh, I'm just trying to
thicken my vocal chords so I can scream better!" When I went back to Gramps to
tell him, he just grinned and said, "It figures, We'll just let him be!" We can
now say, "Thank you, Kurt, for thickening your vocal chords!"
Kurt didn't fit the general mold of society in a logging town, and so he was
beaten upon by people who didn't understand him. One day I heard that he was in
a fight a few blocks away. When I ran to the scene, the fight was over. However,
I heard from a friend that Kurt was assaulted by a burly, 250-pound logger type.

Kurt Cobain
.... Most of Kurt's friends didn't really like things like art and music.
He loved these things so much he stopped making friends because he was different.
Kurt was not such a health kid. His whole life he suffered chronic bronchitis.
At age of seven he was diagnosed hyperactive. He was put on Ritalin. This
seemed to make him stay up until four in the morning. They soon put him on
sedatives. This did not work either. They made him fall asleep in school.
Doctors told Wendy to try subtracting sugar and Red Dye #2 from his food. This
was the right prescription for Kurt. Sometime during the 8th grade Kurt was
diagnosed with sclo .....
