Jim Thorpe
.... 1907 Jim walks by the athletic fields and watches the track team practicing the high jump. Jim's only 5'9" and 144lbs. He asks if he can try. So wearing a pair of overalls he clears the jump. The boys run and tell Pop Warner that Jim just broke the school record. Soon enough Jim's on the track team. That year Jim dominated the field at the PA Junior College Interscholastic meet in Harrisburg.

Mark Twain

In 1861, Twain traveled by stagecoach to Carson City, Nev., with his brother Orion, who had been appointed territorial secretary. After unsuccessful attempts at silver and gold mining, he returned to writing as a correspondent for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. At first he signed his humorous and imaginative sketches "Josh," but early in 1863 he adopted the now-famous name “Mark Twain,” borrowed from the Mississippi leadsman's call meaning "two fathoms" deep or safe water for a steamboat.

Henry Ford

Euclid
.... to learn geometry than by learning all the theorems. Euclid replied, "There is no royal road to geometry" and sent the king to study. Euclid's fame comes from his writings, especially his masterpiece Elements. This 13 volume work is a compilation of Greek mathematics and geometry.
It is unknown how much if any of the work included in Elements is Euclid's original work; many of the theorems found can be traced to previous thinkers including Euxodus, Thales, Hippocrates and Pythagoras.
