Hamlet's Soliloquy
.... another look into the mind of Hamlet when he is talking about his thoughts that have “one part wisdom and ever three parts coward”. The word choice here shows another contradiction between the words “wisdom” and “coward”. A coward is able to have wisdom but if the cowardly aspect takes control than the wisdom is smothered. This is the case with Hamlet. He thinks that he has let his timid nature take over his knowledge of what is right and therefore he is angry with himself for being apprehensive. That is why he tells himself that his thoughts are “cowardly” which is an effective word to use. Another place where the power of d .....

The Role Of Fate And Hubris In Oedipus The King
.... well known plots the people's minds were open and Sophocles's messages were beaten into them. Almost like subliminal messages.
But what messages would Sophocles wish to push on his audiences?
Well, at the time, the people of Athens were declining in moral values, they were losing faith in the Gods, mistreating people lower than them and taking part in thefts, murders and other sins. They were also becoming religious hypocrites, only using the Gods at their own convenience. Sophocles wished to change all of this.
So Sophocles chose a character, Oedipus, that personified what was good in Athenian society, the want for just .....

Hamlet
.... He told me a lot of information about what happened to him before his death, and the details about his death. He told me that he was murdered by my Uncle Claudius, by means of poison in the ear. When I was talking with my father’s ghost, he also told me to so three things. The first was to sweep Claudius off the thrown and do something to end the incest and luxury from the kingdom. I will honestly try my hardest to fulfill this wish so I will take over what is rightfully mine. The second was to leave my mother Gertrude out of the whole revenge against the king. He wanted me to let her go to heaven so she will come to he .....

Romeo And Juliet: Prejudice Between Families
.... thumb at him. This leads to a fight, which involves the Lords of both families and the Prince. No death occurred, but the families attitudes against each other were worse then before. Which caused a lot of prejudice against the families that lead to violence.

The Media: Newspapers
.... a humorous cartoon that relates to the main story. The photos in the broadsheet are needed to draw the reader’s attention to the paper but also to make the large blocks of text seem less intimidat-ing. The newspapers also have lots of advertisements. In The Daily Telegraph they are very colourful and large, often covering one or two pages (For example,, for Volkswagen or Saab-mostly car adverts) while the advertisements in The Daily Mail seem to be smaller and mostly in black and white (For example,, caravan holidays in Wales).
I think that if a less literate person was choosing between the two they would be more likely to choos .....

Tragedy And The Common Man
.... is, among those reading or viewing the play, a bonding force for persons of every station. Miller’s success in this point is bred from each viewer’s own sentiment for Willie Loman.
Another point by Miller is that, “the tragic feeling is invoked in us when we are in the presence of a character who is willing to lay down his life... to secure one thing- his sense of personal dignity.” Willy Loman is that kind of man. He will go to any length to preserve his personal dignity. Much of his sense of identity stems from his vocation. He is a salesman. His importance is derived from that designation. Thus, his self- .....

Shakespeare's Hamlet
.... dream. “ The imminent death of twenty thousand men that for fantasy and trick of fame.” In this statement Hamlet is declaring that he thinks Fortinbras quest is meaningless and therefore deems it foolish. He is also compromising Fortinbras basic ability to reason. Throughout the play, Hamlets wishes that he could take actions and avenge his father’s death, but in this soliloquy he also states that he believes Fortinbras reasoning to be skewed. He believes that the actions of Fortinbras are incredibly simplistic and thus feels superior in this manner. Hamlet admires those who ca use their intelligence to its capacity and then act up .....

Fashion In The 1920s
.... ready-to-wear industry didn't really exist until the 1930's. Therefore, many women obtained patterns that would allow them to create their own clothing out of fabrics such as wool, silk, linen or cotton. There were also two important ethnic influences on the fabric and prints of the 1920s. One of those influences was Chinese, whose culture inspired several kimono styles, embroidered silks, and the dominance of the color red. The other influence was the discovery of King Tut's tomb. This brought about an abundance of Egyptian fashions and accessories, including the snake bracelets that encircled the upper arm.
A large misconc .....

Oedipus Rex: Oedipus Deserves His Fate
.... was a tyrannical ruler and didn't make the best choices in life, he deserved to suffer. E. R. Dodds states that, "Oedipus' behavior on the stage reveals the man he always was: he was punished for his basically unsound character." It was unavoidable and was his destiny to suffer in life. It was certainly not his fault that he reacted to his circumstances as he did.
One of the most outstanding examples of the god's predetermination, is when Oedipus recalls memories of his own childhood in Corinth when the oracle warns him that he will one day slay his father, and defile the bed of his mother. Oedipus tried to change his destiny .....

Dante's Peak
.... 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, and have inundated other valleys around Cascade volcanoes during prehistoric eruptions. Lahars at Nevado del Ruiz volcano, Colombia, in 1985, killed more than 23,000 people." Near a volcano, the falling volcanic ash is quite heavy (high density), and the newspaper used as a proxy for volcanic ash in the movie looked more like snow (low density) as it fell. For geologists who have seen the movie, the hot, runny lava, seen issuing from the volcano, is the most bothersome issue. Generally, runny, fast-flowing lava (basalt) erupts from Hawaiian or "shield" volcanoes; but we understand that this make .....
