The Shrew One of the smallest mammals is the shrew. It has a snout that is long and pointed, the small ears are coverd with short fur, it eyes small, and its tail is never more than twice as long as back foot. The shrew has short thick fur, its upper boddy is olive-brown and lighter on its stomach. its usaly 79mm long, its tail is 18 mm long, and its weight is around 4-7 1/2g. The shrew lives in eastern and central parts of the state, also west in the Panhandle to the New Mexico line.
