In The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, by William Shakespeare, women are portrayed as ineffectual and impressionable creatures dependent on men for emotional stability. The two women characters in the play, Ophelia and Gertrude, are similar in their weaknesses and frailties.
