Silent Spring: Abuse of Pesticides Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring brought about an awareness of the abuse of  pesticides in the 1960’s. She told the stories of how deadly pesticides  could be to the environment, wildlife, and even humans. There were very  few regulations on all the new chemicals that were widely used after  World War II, and not enough time was spent on researching the possible  harmful affects.
